ECU removal 93 F250 351W

This is driving me crazy. What is the trick here? I have disconnected the ECU at the plug and tried to wiggle it out from the inside behind the kick panel. It does not clear. I detached the 2 nuts that hold the metal bracket that hold the ECU and tried to wiggle that whole thing out, no go.

What am I missing?? I can't see how to make this work.

Like the video Wes posted...the computer (PCM) comes out the engine side of the firewall (1992 and later). 1991 and earlier trucks it came out the cab side.

Thanks, I've watched that video. Unfortunately, It's for a 1992, which I think may be different. The thread I found for a 93 with 351w specifically said it comes out behind kick panel.

I also tried to slide it out thru the firewall and not having any luck there either. It looks like it *might* work, but i can't budge it past a certain point.

I got it.

I think i had bent the metal frame that the ECU sits in a little bit which made it pretty tricky to pull out the front. I massaged it a little, dropped the fender liner and it came right out.

I have worked on this vintage truck for 15 years, the PCM comes out the engine side on 1992 and later trucks. The trick is to use a broom handle to push down on the inner fender liner or remove the liner to give the PCM enough clearance to slide out. I can guarantee you it does not come out from inside the cab.

Yep, that's the key to getting that pesky devil out of there!
