There is a switch on the door jam. They wear and break.
Dome Light Switch - D3TZ13713A
Fits Driver And Passenger side.
You can easily find a good one at the wreckers.

If you don't want the lamp to turn on with the door, just unplug these switches.
And here I am thinking you turn the Head Light switch **** a certain way and it will click the light off....

The door jamb switches override the headlight ****. Even with the headlight **** rotated such that the dome light is off, opening the door will force the light on. Door jamb switches are cheap and available at most parts stores. When you buy a new one, it comes much longer than the original. When you install it and slam the door the first time, the switch adjusts to the proper length.

If you open either of the doors, it will be between the door and the cab, on the cab side. You can see it in the upper left of this picture; it's right before the windshield starts to curve toward you.
Well I sprayed the heck out of my passenger side dome light switch and worked the snot out of it. The light does come on now. I will spray the switch with some Deoxit electrical contact cleaner and it should be good to go.
Might want to check the switch, mine was just sticking. Still does it on occasion, don't really know what to lube it up with that will make it keep working. But my drivers door always turns the dome on, passenger sometimes I have to press the switch in and out a few times by hand and it will spring to life.
One of the reason I beleive the passenger side fails to operate properly is due to the drivers side being open more often and the passenger stay's shut more, causing debris like road dust etc, building up around the switch and causing it to not pop / spring each time you open the door. I know my local autozone sells remans, for these doors.

I'd say thats probably right. My passenger door can go unused for a month at a time sometimes, while the driver side has always worked.
Any idea how much those reman are by chance? May look into one some day, even though its not really a big bother.
