Dash light and dome light?

Not sure about the 99... my 03 does though, roll the dimmer all the way up and then it "clicks" into the dome light on position. I'm sure someone with a 99 or more knowledge of the features will buzz in here soon. BTW is it an early or late 99 and what package does it have XL, XLT, Lariat, etc

I would look at the switch itself.

I just replaced the switch because i broke it trying to check this.
Still no workie does any one have a wiring diagram I would know what
to chec with that. Production date is 8/98 so color codes may be differant
than 99 when I go to install gauges there is not the light blue with red tracer
they say I need to splice into to dim the gauges with the dash lights which
do work with the dimmer.

You probably already have done this but take a close look at the wiring to the back of the switch. It sounds as though maybe a wire got pulled and has hidden itself in the bunch of wires leading to the switch. There is power in to the swtich and when you roll that up and click, it puts power out on one wire.
I dont have the diagrams but when you do find one, also check continuity through the switch when it is in the DOME LIGHT ON position. Between the power in and the power out. Wouldn't be the first time a new switch was DOA out of the box.
