Ok, I have an 81 f-150 with a 351m and a C6. The C6 is starting to slip between 2nd and 3rd. I am thinking of swapping it for an overdrive. Is there any tranny's other than an overdrive out of something with a 460 that will fit? I would love to put the overdrive tranny out of a mustang or thunderbird in it. But, I don't believe that they will bolt up to the 351m. Is there anyone that makes an adapter plate for this swap? What is the overdrive tranny called that they use for the 460? Thanks for any help or info on this.
i believe its an e4od that replaced the c6 but not for sure. they problably require somekind of computer to control them though. i would rebuild yours or find another one, the c6 is hard to beat.
Bill if your paying that kind of money for a rebuilt C6 your being ripped off. You can by a performance built one to handle 700+hp from broaderperformance WITH the wide ratio gear set installed for $1350 or the superduty version for $1450.

around here a C6 rebuild will run you about $500 for a stock setup with a new TC.
LOL...That's what I get for living in CA.
The one grand figure was based on what dealerships charged...minimum...in the 1990's for steel/lined clutches (forward, reverse, direct), bands, gasket set and seals, inc. labor.
I passed out so many of those parts for over 30 years, I can still recite the part numbers from memory.
Yeah you should know you can't compare Kali prices with any other place on the planet LOL
If CA car parts prices aren't bad enough....
Due to CA's increasing the tobacco tax, the price for a carton of cigs just went up...on average...12 DOLLARS last week.
That means a carton of...for example...Marlboro 100's: $46.95 out the door at the el cheapo places. Add another 10 bucks or so...if you buy them from a supermarket chain store.
well I was quoted that price right here in Cleveland for a stock rebuild minus t.c. My high performance c-6 was $929.00 and my t.c. was $626.00. I thought this is a very competitive cost. Summits big block c-6 is cheaper than the small block!
I know it's hijacking but Bill you want a good one? Our governor put in one of the strongest anti smoking bills in the nation (it's as bad as yours there in CA) and you can not even smoke in any state building or vehicle. less then 1 month after he signed the law, his wife got caught smoking in the state SUV while being driven around by a state trooper.
That was also right after he pushed for and got a $1/pack increase in tax, and his wife was seen having a state trooper drive her across teh state line to buy cigarettes in MO (that little stunt forced them to stop trying to bust people coming across the border with cigs from MO)
Bob one of the reasons MAY be due to the small block has to have upgrades done that the big block trans already have.

Good advice on rebuilding the C6. But to answer your question you need to look for an E4OD, most (but not all as some still had C6) 460s from about `88 on had them and you would need to get a stand alone controller to replace the stock computer.
I figured that there would be some kind of pain in the a## controller or something that I would have to deal with. I think I will just stick with the C6. I hate computers!!! I have looked in the summit and jegs mags. I can order a C6 from TCI with the upgraded parts and shift kit for like $760. I guess that is the route I will go if the local tranny guy here can't do it for less. But, the tranny from TCI comes with a warranty too. So I don't know which way I will go. I will keep yall posted on what I decide. Don't feel bad numbers. I am living in Arkansas right now and we are paying the same price for cigs that you are, and they are going to go up again on the 1st of April.
