My uncle just got a new 6.4L for his company truck. Dont know what job # it is because i havent looked it over yet, but he already has problems after the first 1k miles. The truck is a 350 crew cab dually. He said coming home from Indiana pulling an enclosed trailer the truck started hissing and the boost gauge would peg out then start flucuating rapidly between 20 and 40 psi and loose power. He said he pulled over to check things out and left it idling. Said he got back in a drove it on the KY and right before he got back it did it again. Anyone seen or heard anything like it? He really likes the truck and said it pulls like a freight train but this little issue has him worried. I am assuming it has the latest flash because it has had the injector recall Bobby has been helping everyone on here with.
Check out the owners manual--Regen reduces torque from 650 to 615 lb/ft.
I was towing my 13K 5th wheel up a large grade on I25 here in New Mexico, and it went into regen during the climb--the truck made a little bump as the power was reduced and we slowed down about 2 mph.
It's not much of a change, but you can definitely feel it if you are under full boost when it starts.
Agreed regen reduces power and you can damn sure tell it when towing a heavy load and it also makes the hissin noise your uncle heard sounds totally different during regen.

Has anyone ever heard the noise that the rush of air makes coming out the tailpipe?
It's a really loud hiss and the amount of air pushing through that tail pipe has to be amazing. Go try it out some time. Get on the highway and when there is a wall on your right put your foot down so that the engine downshifts and screams. Make sure your right rear window is open.
Yes--There is a rushing sound during regen-What you are hearing is the effect of the extremely hot exhaust gas mixing with the cool air at the exit point.
You may not feel it on flat ground, but the engine reduces power during regens, this is to avoid overheating the exhaust during regen. If they allowed full power and regen at same time, over temp in exhaust might occur.
He has canceled all these out. What about the turbo gauge pegging out when he steps on it and then starts flipping between 20 and 40 psi real quick? He felt the regen when it happened and canceled that out. I am leaning toward a sensor or a bad turbo. Which turbo has variable vanes? Is it the low pressure or high pressure one?
Sounds like he needs to take it in and look for codes. I agree this sounds like more than a regen. I have never seen the boost bounce all over during a regen. It will sound a little different but obviously he has been through a regen and knows the difference.
