Ok I have a 1997 F150 w/ a 4.2 and its knocking
I have checked the anti freeze and its all good. No smell from the exhaust and the oil pressure is good. The knock sounds and feels like its coming from the oil filter adapter (Or is this the oil pump?) When I pulled the plug wires off it made no difference to the sound at all
it doesnt sound like a typical rod knock to me but I am primarily a motorcycle guy so this may be different?
My question is will the oil pump/ adapter knock?
Anyone ever heard of this?
Thanks in advance for any help
Steve
hi, if it is the oil pump that is making the noise it may have a broken drive shaft and the the broken parts could be rubbing against each other, giving drive then no drive. it is not unheard of that the shaft can brake as they are quite femma.
the pump is easy to remove and the drive shaft will be left attached so just be carefull when dropping it off after all screws are removed.
oil pressure is best checked with a machanical gauge as the original only shows that 7psi has been reached. hope this helps bokker.
