Engine is a 352. Running strong but there is a small knock that is concurrent with the RPMs. Higher RPMs is faster knocking. White smoke is coming out of the pipe. Other than these issues the engine is running very strong and besides the knock sounds very good. Has a new distributor, distributor cap, plugs, plug wires, oil pump, fuel filter, oil change, oil filter, etc. I have had a few different opinions on the issue but would like to get some opinions on here. I tried pulling each wire from the distributor while the engine is running to see if I could find out which cylinder the knock comes from but none of the wites pulled stopped the knocking.
I haven't had to deal with a rod bearing in many years, but it might be bad enough that removing the wire doesn't make it go away. Strangely enough, about 20 yr ago I got a 390 off a fellow that knocked. I heard it while in the car. I did rebuild that motor years later and I never found anything that was worn or damaged. Only had 50k miles on it. Still don't know what was knocking.
The white smoke it likely a headgasket? Or just an intake gasket leaking and drawing antifreeze into the cylinder. You might be able to determine which cylinder by looking closely at the plugs. One should have a white/grey ash to it.
Likely if the intake gasket, it will be a front or rear cylinder(not the middle) as the water is only at the end of the heads. If it is in the middle, most chance it is headgasket.
Have you had it running with radiator cap off? Sometimes you will get bubbling if it is headgasket leaking.
Did the knock start after the tune up parts? Distributor specifically? Think it could be spark knock (pre-detonation)? Maybe too much timing? I don't know if that would contribute to any smoking or not, most likely not
