If its a later 85, then its the 2nd best 6.9 made. (1st bein the 87 6.9 due to its upgraded rockers and GP's, but your 85 can be upgraded to those as well with no mods)
Things to look for would be signs of leaking headgaskets and look at the block heater to make sure there are no cracks that the 83-early85 were prone to forming when the block heater was used.
Yes it can hold 7psi, however if you want to go past 10psi, then you need ARP head studs and new headgaskets. That'll boost it to 15 psi max, then if ya wanna go further then you will need to mill down the pistons to lower the compression.
Just bring a breaker bar to make sure she still spins freely.
It'll be getting 7.3 rockers and glowplug system and of couse the turbo off my 7.3 so I can hear all the old farts at work tell me the turbo is gonna kill the motor. They still argue with me that the compresion ratio is lower on the turbo 7.3s than the N/A ones, Some how i think ford knows more about the engine they specked out than the guys at motors manule.
Look at the block heater area. There should be a machined counter bore around the block heater. If it has this, then its the right kind of block. If not, all it means is that you should avoid using the block heater as SOME can crack at that location.
7 PSI is monkey proof on a 6.9. If you limit the boost that low, you will not have any problems at all.
I go up to utah quite abit in the winter to snowboard but even then I just start it evey 4-6 hourse and let it warm up. My 7.3 fired right up after sitting 4 hours in -15*f. Hey the hampster on the wheel in my head just woke up the block heater most likely wasn't used, I'll go sit in the corner now.
69,000 miles been parked 2 years and ran good befor it was parked, from the sounds of it there was some water in the fule wich rusted up the IP while it sat. I'm gona go look at it right now and maybe pick it up.
Well I went and checked it out seems solid. turned over by hand easy in a good way and hard in a good way if ya follow. He's even going to pull it for me. Now i just gotta figure out how to get it the 70 miles to my truck.
In the trunck of the integra just tell the ole lady a mans gotta do what a mans gotta do.
It works everytime sometimes even gets you a new ole lady too.
Sure it will. You are only talking about 1200 lbs of engine weight. The suspension might not like it, but compared to towing a small trailer its really not much.
Just think of it like having 4 really fat guys in the back (lets try not to visualize too much).
