Hey guys, I was hoping someone could confirm that a zf-6 from an 01' superduty 7.3L powerstroke will bolt up to the IDI block.
If it does I am getting a complete powertrain from tranny to xfercase and driveshafts. I will make sure to post a thread on the install with tons of pictures.
cool, i was just day dreaming about this today. i saw a superduty 7.3L powerstroke with a 6spd at the junk yard today, i forgot to check what year but it definatly was a younger than a 99
It is cool, except for one slight problem, they won't work with your Tcase (if its a 4x4) due to a larger output shaft. Also the ZF-6 has no provision for a speedo sensor.
I am getting the transfer case with the zf6. It is a manual shift xfer case too so there is no dicking around with electronics.
I will be taking off the cab and fabricating all new mounting brackets and crossmembers to make it work like it should. I don't imagine it being very difficult as long as it bolts up to the IDI.
The guy i'm purchasing it from will have it pulled out late next week. I will make sure that I take tons of pictures and make lots of posts here.
And for the speedo problem I will just order an Autometer electronic speedometer or just continue to drive off the tach...like i've done since I got the truck.
The only problem you are gonna have is NO speedo, your truck has the speedo in the tranny (I think, I've never worked on a 4x4 in one of these trucks), but the 99+ have the speedo sensor in the rearend.
I say just get a GPS system and they'll tell you your speed, or you can be like me and just learn the RPMs vs speed.
I know, its kinda wierd, it makes things seem quite redundent being is we all said the same thing, just in different order, but hey its real nice to see things are lively around here.
