I was under the impression that the 70's emissions compliant FE engines (like my 73 2v 390) were closer to 8:1, 9.5:1 sounds a little generous. Anyone care to set me straight here?
bear in mind, that was 1966, leaded regular. compressiom ratios dropped radically with the intro of unleaded gas. back in the 60's 10:1 was pretty normal.
Yup, know all about it, I was pumping Ethyl in those days....
Not sure if you can get by with 6 degrees timing in an FE with 9.5 and still run regular (87). It should run on 91. OP may not want to feed the high priced spread...
Our '66 "Regular Fuel" 390 2v soldiered on for years on Co-op unleaded swill without too many issues.
