Hello, I need help before I break something. I have a 1999 F350 7.3l crew cab pickup. I need new rotors on all four I have started in the rear. I have pulled the tires and calipers/brakes. Next I need info on how the rotor is removed from the truck> I have pulled out the axle already. What I think is there is a bearing threaded on that hold the rotor/hub assembly on. If I am correct what is needed to remove that? is there any special tools I will be needing for this? let me know please. I need the truck back on the road soon.
no special tool, sounds like the rotor might be rusted on. try spraying it with a penatrating oil of some sort, let it soak. if that don't work try hitting the rotor with a hammer or something.
for Future people trying this that lock ring come off by tapping lightly the ring until the assembly comes off and the whole rotor slips off. also there may be a wedge lodged in the top key slot. ( I have been told) there was none there on mine.
I actually replace all rotors and pads Saturday also. The rears were a pain in the @$$ to get off. One thing I think really helped out was to spray penatrating oil on the rotors, they were frozen or rusted on. Then pounded the rotor while turning it, then it slid right off.
