I have a '90 Bronco 351 with manual hubs and i am trying to replace the rotors. The question i have is, after I remove to 2 retainer rings and pull the body assembly out should the rotor just pull right off? Do I need a speacial puller for this? I have the rings off but the rotor won't pull off, I don't know if there's some kind of trick that anyone might have.
No! you need a special tool for unbolting the rotor. The tool can be bought form the parts store (less than $20). It is a big Half inch socket that has 4 prongs that will slide on to your rotor while it is on the spindle Then just unbolt just like any nut with a ratchet. Jem270 is talking about after you get them off. If you buy new ones you may have to split the Hub and rotor assemble. I did this, Just put some old lug nuts on the bolts and pound them out. to put them back together just use an impact wrench and tightem them down untill the lug bolts are flush.
yep poffutt hit the nail right on the head! if you have big needle nose pliers open it up stick each end into opposite notch, get a good bite, then try to loosen, these shouldn't be too tight
I guess it's that wrench that i need to get, just looking around on the site i think it's called a spanner wrench. I already have the rotor hub assembly, Thanks for you help. I'll let you know how it goes.
I tried to reply with a link to an external site... one that has a detailed step-by-step of how to do this... but it never made it to the thread. I'll see if I can PM it to you.
