My wipers have magically cycled from time to time for years, but recently they have started doing it a lot, sometimes continuously. The mf switch doesn't seem to have an effect on it when it starts. Any ideas? 99 f150 4x4
There was a recall on the wiper motor cover years ago.
It had something to do with the wrong grease in it and would short out and cycle the wipers every now and then.
You might still be able to take it in and get it replaced under the recall.
But my guess is the multi function switch and or one of the connectors to the switch, If it is the switch be sure to use a Motorcraft product.
Good luck.
Thanks Deebo, I'll check that out because that fits.
Ron W. It may be the MFS, if I cut the switch on while it is doing it they will regulate to any speed like it should. When I cut the switch off it goes back to random, even short stroking sometimes. Seems to do it worse on misty wet mornings lately also.
If they will replace the motor I will start there.
My 99 F150 has been doing the exact same thing sporadically since it was new. I have been in at least 2 other 97 - 2001 Ford trucks that also did the same thing. So changing the switch on the turn signal is what fixed the problem?
When this was happening on my truck it turned out to be a few loose wires on the MFS. Fixed it almost 2 years ago by taping up the harness and didn't have any problems until a few days ago when it started again. I think the tape came loose. A little electrical tape and 15 min should fix the problem. This link has some more details towards the bottom. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...t-problem.html
