truck: '04 crewcab superduty 6.0L PSD 4x4 with 265/75/r16 all terrain tires
Problem: i noticed the other day that the passenger side front tire sticks out about 3 inches farther than the left front tire. what would cause this? and yes the wheels were stright.
im sorry i dont have answer but i know i saw this same type of post before
search function not working like it should otherwise could find ans. fairly quick
This is an 04, so the truck has leaf springs. The springs itself locate the axle, and the trac bar is there to limit bumpsteer with invterted "T" style steering, and the small stock front leaf springs. Although I do supose that a weak set of springs would bring the heigth down and the trac bar could put enough side tension an the axle that it might force it over, but not three inches, and not without trying to break the lower mount on the axle. Besides the bumpstops are so close to the axle from the factory that this theory would mean that the bumps would be resting on the axle. Cant see this happening without other more severe complications.
Since the springs are 3 inches wide, then it is safe to assume that the bushings are not so worn that it would have permited the axle to move that far.
Might look at the body itself. Three inches is a long way to be off. Has this truck ever been in an accident? Perhaps the body is not straight on the chassis?
Is the whole axle off three inches or is the right side just sticking out three inches further than the left? If the axle is still centered and the right side is sticking out three more inches than usual, don't drive it 'cause you've got problems.
well looking at the left front and compareing it to the left rear it looks inline. the truck was in a pretty bad accident early last year and the entire front axle was replaced including case, axles, hubs, leaf springs, all steering parts here is a pic of the damage it was about $18,000 in damage they should have totaled the truck but freaking geico sucks *****:
now while i say 3 inches it may not be that much i havent taken a tape to it yet but will be doing that today. it has to be at least 2-2.5 inches off.
Does it track straight going down the road? Might want to take it to a reputable frame shop and have them check to make sure the axles are square with the frame.
were the rims replaced from the wreck? maybe miss matched backspacing? is the over all measurement from inside of back rims the same as inside of front rims? tire wear look even? if you let go of steering wheel on a good flat road does it pull hard? or track straight? If you drive in straight line through a puddle can you see a offset between front wheels to rear wheels?
yeah the right front rim was replaced. as far as tire wear goes all 4 are pretty screwed up these tires suck bad. and it seems to track properly and seems pretty stright as far as driving through a puddle but i may have to look closer into it
