EGT?s

I installed a Edge Juice with Attitude tuner in my 02 350 with 35s and stock gearing with only around 70k miles for the main purpose of monitering my EGTs while towing.
When I mash the throttle on the mountain passes (empty with no trailer) with the programmer set on the stock setting or the economy setting I have no problems getting the EGTs up to 1200 degrees or more if I dont lift.

Could this be right? or do I have a problem?

Please tell me this is pre-turbo temps...
Depending on your elevation (I see you are in CO so I'm guessing higher elevation) that sounds about normal to me.

1200 degrees in stock tuning can be reached at high altitude on an otherwise mostly stock truck. Any other tune above stock will easily have the potential to make EGT's rise even higher than that.

The fact that you have 35" tires and stock gearing makes the EGT issue worse, especially when towing.

I second that. At elevation with 35's and stock gearing the engine is working hard and needs fuel. Do you have aftermarket exhaust or are you running bigger than stock? What about your intake and intercooler?

Edit: Damn Curtis you got in there quick. Now I have to third it.

Pre trurbo temps.
All stock except for programmer. Future mods include exhaust and intake at the very least as $ allows. I got the programmer first to keep an eye on EGTs.

I always run in stock or economy setting except for the accasional smoke out on the cyclist holding up traffic on the windy roads or that Honda Civic with his windows down, rattle can exhaust, sitting at a stop light with his base turned up so loud it shakes my windows.

What should be my next mod to lower these temps?

At least straight pipe it or better yet go with a 4 inch exhaust. Then get a better intake like the do it yourself 6637 filter from fleetfilter.com. It's about $28 plus shipping(and you can get 2 shipped for the price of 1) and you need a section of 4 inch exhaust or some other 4inch outer diameter tubing to attach it to. It won't help a whole lot with your EGT's, the exhaust will, but it will help filter better than that stock piece of junk and it will get more air in for better performance and maybe a tiny bit better mileage if yoy can keep your foot out of it. Check out the mods and maintenace link in my signature and look around. There are plenty of things to do to that truck.

It gives you a logical path to mods for a budget of $2,000 dollars. You don't have to do that all at once, just as funding allows.

You are very welcome. That list is for what we like to call PMS around here. If you haven't heard of that term, it stands for Powerstroke Modification Syndrome and it is a a beotch. Once you start modding these trucks, it gets in your blood. If you have a toy hauler I am sure you understand the concept.

I tow and run empty plenty of times up some of the high passes here in CO and have no problem tickling the 1200 degree limits. Just keep your RPM's up and your temps will stay within range. An intake and exhaust upgrade will help as well. My DP Tuner with tow tunes set to high altitude did help quite a bit as well.

He's at about 7500' elevation at Evergreen with some of the local passes going up to 10,000' or so. Pretty thin air. Some real nice windy two lane roads to navigate as well.

You could also get a larger exhaust housing for the turbo, I understand they help keep the EGT's down.

They do, but at that altitude, I would stick with the .84 housing that came stock. Maybe a turbomaster wastegate controler, but keep the .84

I recommend you read this thread to understand the "Physics" of your problem before "blindly" following advice to install a "hot air intake"! ...High Altitude ...This thread is located at: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...1&goto=newpost
