Catalytic Converter?

Today i tried to get a Virginia inspection sticker for my 79 F100, i was issue a temporary sticker for 15 days for not having a catalytic converter. Did the 73-79 F-Series truck come with catalytic converters? If so what is the best high flow cat to buy?

Thank you, Ford Trucks are the best!

A 1979 F100 came with one from factory. Most 1979 trucks had catalytic converters from factory.

Do you have the rest of the emissions equipment as well?

All '79's came with cats in the US. I got one for my 79 from Summit last year. It was a magna flow PN MPE-94105 for about $70. It fit my stock exhaust system fine.

No, they didn't. 1979 Trucks weighting more than 8500 GVW as per the new EPA law did not require catalytic converters. Plus, some trucks built prior January 1, 1979 may be certified for 1978 emissions (with the older EPA requirement, which was 6500 GVW).

For instances, F-350. 1979 F350s did not come with any. Its lowest rated GVW for the F-350? 8550! They pulled the same thing by introducing the F150 in 1975...

I have a 1977 F150 300 I6 which does not have a cat, and on the valve cover it reads non catalyst, but I bet they were from 78 onward. Someone may jump in here and tell us some did before that. I am willing to bet you are to have one and an EGR valve.

also welcome aboard I see this is your first post.

I'm sure your right. I only cared about cars when the question came up in the past.
