Well I checked all of the pulleys. None of them seemed to be sticky. The powersteering pump was the hardest to spin but I think the torque it took to spin it was normal. Any other ideas?
I would put my old one on but it shreded when it came off. Not a belt now, just a whip. I am going to try to replace the one idler pulley bearing anyhow tomorrow.
If it shredded when it came off, what caused it to shred? Was it really that worn out, or did something cause it to overheat and fail? It could be as simple as contamination. I've had luck with using some emory cloth to "sand" the back of a belt to clean it up some. I have a fairly new belt in my personal truck and spilled some antifreeze on it and now it squeeks occasionally. I sanded it some, since the antifreeze soaks into the rubber it didn't go away completely but got better. You have to be careful of course. I use around 80 to 120 grit cloth.
I have a nearly brand new gator back you could have. I am one of those unlucky ones that had it vibrate between the alt and p/s pump. But that side of my truck vibrates anyway....nother thread.
The belt broke because it was just wore out. Well I think i narrowed to down to the pulley is a little tight for the belt. Going to sand it down and see what that does.

No, don't do that, it will make the belt too loose and then it will REALLY slip and squeak!
Try a couple of dabs of black RTV silicone on the belt, start the engine and let it idle, spreading the RTV as a thin coating for the belt.
It's amazing how quiet it gets.
Sorry Justin if you said this before and I didn't see it but what brand and part number of belt do you have? I just picked up one ( Goodyear #4081223) and was curious if that's the same one. Single alternator 7.3L is what the "book" says.
It was a Polycog or something like that. I don't have the part number right off hand. I know it was the one for a single alt. The only problem I have is that it is just a little too wide. I am going to try the RTV first and if that doesn't help, going to sand the backside edge of the belt to narrow it up a little bit.
That is funny how this works out. every time I have a question about my truck someone else already beats me to it in a thread. my belt kinda squeaks but it is very hard to hear and it only does it in the rain.

Thanks, gonna tackle this soon and was curious. Hopefully, you'll get it fixed.
I also had the elusive squeak. I replaced the idlers. Turns out it was the tensioner itself. Not a pulley but the action of the spring as it was 'tensioning'. I found while still jacking with the problem. I happened to finally see the belt misaligned and noticed about a 3/4 inch gap where the tensioner was coming apart.
You should pull the tensioner assembly and inspect it.
This may sound stupid, but is it a napa belt? I bought one from Napa and it squeeked like crazy. Took it back, got another, still squeeked. Went and bought another no name brand one from another place, and it never made a noise.
