I'm suprised at the OEM ones. They are a somewhat sealed unit. If it is in a very dusty enviorment then maybe that could be causing it to fail, but if it was that bad then I would think that there would be other issued in the cab. Did Ford give you any indication as to what was failing on them?
We have a sit sponsor here who is in the parts dept of a Ford dealship. He is a great guy and very helpful. I'll see if he has any ideas. I'm really scratching my head as to why they keep failing on you.
I just ordered my first assembly. I was hoping to get away with just the sensor, but Ed said I need the whole thing...ouch. Are they very difficult to install?
Yea, I think 2001 or so is when the TPS itself be replaced. The pedal IIRC is 2 bolts and a plug. Shouldnt take anymore than 5 minutes (at least in my 2000)
The 02's have a TSB with the same symptoms, but it is not the pedal sensor, it is a wire that is shorting out. I had 3 replaced as well on my 02, then the tech spotted the exposed wire in the harness. Have the dealer run a TSB for that issue and they may find the short.
