hey guys, im new to the boards. i have a 1992 F150, 2wd, 302 with an e40d trans. last week, i was driving through town and it started slamming into gears. starting from 1st all the way to OD slams hard. this truck is my pride and joy and i really want to get her fixed. the fluid and filter is less than a year old and does not smell burnt. the OD light is not flashing either. no check engine light. thanks for any help!
Even though you have no lights check it for codes. If you don`t have a code reader click on "Tech Info" on the top line of this forum and then on OBD1 for instructions on how to use the check engine light to read any codes.
well, i cant get my codes read because autozone only reads obd2. so i have attempted to do it. is there any shift solenoids that could be malfunctioning?
Where Y'at MichiganFord,
Sounds like the MLP sensor- the old name and funtion is a neutral safty swicth. My 92 w/E40d started slaming into gear, holding too long in gear before shifting and kicking into neutral on overpasses. If yours is original to put the new one on you need to change the wire pins in the new plug. I changed mine and it runs Great but I started to like the harder shifts.
Later. Abby
well, i just took my truck into the shop at my college. the transmission class checked my truck out and came to a conclusion. The EPC is bad and he said i have a bad solenoid pack. any suggestions? should i junkyard hunt for this part?

There is a plug under your hood on the driver's side just next to where the firewall meets the fender. In the area of your brake booster. On the inside of the fender wall the plug will be attached and it should be grey and have two wires (there is another with 7 or 8 wires, this is NOT the one). Of you find this plug that has two wires going into it and this plug is not plugged into anything else, you have the right one.
Take a paperclip and jumper the wires together, then turn the key to the ON position. This should flash the codes through your Check Engine Light.
Instant code reader. I have the same year truck just 4x4 and 351W motor.
by my brake booster, is that my trans module? i was told this could also be part of the problem. im sorry for askin dumb questions but transmission arent my cup of tea.
