Ford ESP Premium Plan Anyone?

My dealer is throwing in an extended service plan on my 09 FX4 to 5 year/100k miles on the powertrain only (I think most dealers are doing this) to supplement the 3/36 bumper to bumper.

However I am looking at the 7yr/100k premium ESP (which I read as a bumper to bumper) for $1,085 online.

Has anyone who bought new recently talked to a dealer about upgrading the 5/100 powertrain they are offering (which appears to cost $485 online) and paying the difference?

I also noticed that the Ford Direct online ESP plan offers 10%/11 months interest free to pay for it.

Seriously considering this, would love to hear experiences.

I had esp coverage on my 1994 tempo and 1998 windstar. I was very happy with the coverage. $50.00 deductible per visit not per repair and Ford parts. The plans on these vehicles were not the premium plans however, but they were still great. Dan.

Ok lets disect this thing a little.

3/36 basic bumper to bumper
5/60 basic power train warranty

5/100 power train (optional) $485.00

7/100 premium ESP bumper to bumper $1085

Difference of $600.00. If that is in fact a bumper to bumper for $1085, I'd jump on it even if you have to pay the full price.

I think these trucks are built better than ever but your talking a few bucks per year for piece of mind coverage.

I agree with Tim on this one. I got the 7/75 IIRC on my 250 when I got it. It is an excellent investment and in my case even more so due to the diesel. Having said that, I buy them on every vehicle I buy because just like Tim said, they equate to piece of mind and over the long haul, it doesn't really cost that much more when you compare it to the price of repairs such as replacing engines, transmissions, etc. Also, you don't have to buy it right now. You can buy it before your 3/36 expires also but the price will be higher.

Excellent point about waiting and like you said, it will be higher as your ability negotiate for the best price is minimized by a lack of decision making at the appropriate time.

all ford vehicles come with a 5 year 100000km warranty does not cost a the dealer a thing, does cover very few major things. i would personnaly be a little learry on purchasing a warranty online expesially for that amount normally costs about 3000.00 for a prem warranty none of them will be a bumper to bumper but the premium does cover alot.
also can purchase them so there is no deductable and there is another option that they dont tell you is that if you dont use the warranty you are able to get your money back for it.

Here is the link to the US warranty. I purchased my ESP Premium on line and saved about $1200 over the dealer. The warranty itself was just under $1800 and I had almost 30,000 miles on mine at the time. Buying an ESP on line and getting ripped off is not always the case.

Purchasing with no deductible is an option but the warranty cost goes up as the deductible goes down. The higher the deductible you get, the cheaper the warranty purchase price. Also, while they will refund part of the money, I've never had it all refunded on any vehicle as it has always been prorated. May be different in Canada but the OP is in Kansas.

There's also a link there for a thread that addressed this a while back:
