Side door latch 95 van

Hi, I have a 95 van, with the double side doors, and the handle doesn't work any more. I did adjust the workings inside a bit, and got it working for a while, but it is pretty much worn out. It looks to be held in by rivets. Do these have to be drilled out, or am I making the job too difficult?

Thanks!

I did end up fixing it. the outside latch is held in by rivets. The inside had a screw missing on the swivel part, which I replaced, and loctited into place. It has worked great ever since.

yes you have to drill the rivets out. i use Nutserts either in a plate or in the latch assembly and then use stainless button head or stainless flat head 10-32 machine screws to secure them as well as have them serviceable

This is a great idea Neil---wish I'd thought of it actually! Being in the auto glass biz I already have the rivets and tool used so commonly in this sort of R&R but your idea is by far the easier way to go.
