Hey everyone! I have a 1974 F-250 4x4 Highboy. My dad bought it back in 75, new from the dealer. It came from the factory painted black with 3 stripes on each door. The stripes on the driver side door slope up towards the back and the passenger side slopes down towards the back. My dad swears that it came from the factory like that.
Now that I have the history out of the way, I have a question for all you experts. I am wanting to get my truck painted. I would do it myself, but I don't have the experience, don't have the equipment, and don't have any place where I could do it. So, I know that some of you might cringe at this comment, but I am thinking about having Maaco do it. Have any of you had negative experience with them? Do you recommend any other company in the Central Washington area?
You will probvably do alright with maaco. Their prep work is not the best. My advice is for you to do the prep work yourself and take it to them for the paint. Remember that paint only adds color and will not hide a rushed prep job so take your time.
I`ve seen good and bad from Macco. I think it just goes with the people in the local stores.. I went to macco(for an estimate, MGR said look at this one here) and told them that if they tape off (finish) my truck like the ones in the lot, It may never leave for the ride home.(macco estimate 3,500)
I went to a `private` shop..( paid 5,000) worth it !!!
If I do it again I will by a compressor and sand to the finish i want as much as i can.. Save Big Bucks!!
Go to the shop EVERY WEEK and have a look. Check the quality!
I took pictures of my truck as they were doing it (for the scrap book... they did not mind)
I should of removed the chrome from the engine(valve covers etc) it came back FILTHY (hood was removed).....
