32 Valve 5.4L!!!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-May-02 AT 03:37 PM (EST)] Has anyone heard if Ford is going to go into production with the 32 valve DOHC 5.4 that they put in the GT-40? I sure would like to see them put it in the Lightning, especially if the Viper truck comes out in 2003. I also would like to see it become an option for F-series trucks and the Expedition. Imagine the Lightning producing 500HP with a much smaller engine and 2 less cylinders than the Viper truck. If this happens we can start a new forum: FORD'S Viper KILLER!!!! I just don't want to see the price of the vehicles with this engine, especially the Lightning, to skyrocket. I hope Ford starts producing this engine, the possibilities are endless. Emagine this: A new SVT Cobra R-with a 32valve DOHC 5.4L, producing 500HP and 500 ft/lb of torque.

Can you say WOW!! Imagine the look on Viper owners faces after a race with a 500HP Cobra R.

But if that ever does happen, my guess is that we would have to pay a pretty penny to own a Ford vehicle equipped with this engine. What's your opinion? Thanks.

I can't wait!! I hope Ford puts it in the Lightning regardleses of what dodge does. Now the Z06 won't even be competition to the lightning (sniff sniff i smell vipers as possible competition.

I think that Ford will only boost the price of how much more the engine costs over whats in the lightning right now. So i assume a $3000-$4500 jump in price, that still puts the lightning under $40000 right?

personally ide like to see an svt lightning R, they have an svt focas R so y no lightning? then they could really create one badddd truck!!

A Lightning R would be BAD!!!!! But if we get the 32 valve DOHC 5.4L with a supercharger, who needs a Lightning R? We will already have it. Think of a Lightning with 500HP stock!! WOW!!! I can't wait to see what Ford does. If we do get the 32 valve 5.4, I sure hope the price stays under 40K. I will be saving my money for one that is for sure. If it does happen it probaly won't be untill around 2005. Just think of a truck being able to hold its own against sports cars 2 or 3 times it's price.

From what i'm hearing from a buddy of mine, the 32 valve DOHC 5.4 litre V8 will get arriving in the Lightning. It's just a matter of time. Ford created this niche' with a mindblowing performance truck, and you can bet they arn't going to just let Dudge steal the crown. Besides, I don't think i'd ever want to spend $50k for a truck anyway. Maybe I would spend $50k(if I had that kind of crash floating around) on a Vette, or a fast sports car, but not on a truck. The SRT10 if it ever becomes a reality

will probably be a truck for rich Viper owners to haul their trail bitch Vipers around to and from the track since they don't want to drive their precious snakes on the street.

I talked with a friend at Ford 2 days ago about this same topic. He said there are plans for the engine and the Lightning, but they are not planning on releasing it until they have to (more advertisement). If Dodge ever gets their ride straight, then FoMoCo will have something to fall back to boost them back on top.

They look at it this way - There is nothing to compete with a Lightning now, why keep going - that is until they have to?!?!?!

Dodge, Shmodge. My 2001 with a few basic mods is already quicker that that butt ugly V10 slowpar. The only thing I wish Ford would do is offer our truck with a 6 speed - sport trucks need sport tranny's.
