New here... Good to see so much info on here and people willing to help. Great forums you guys have here! I've got a 2005 F-250 King Ranch FX4 with the 6.0 diesel.
Well, what day I had yesterday...
I've been having trouble with my truck starting in the mornings, especially when it's cold. I say cold... I live in Houston, so "cold" here is like 30-40f... lol. Anyway, my terminals were pretty corroded, and I figured I'd go ahead and swap the batteries. Got 2 new batteries. When I went to install them, I noticed the pass side terminal was so corroded it was cracked. So, off to look for a 2 sided terminal... no luck. Spent another $110 at the dealership for a new set of terminals, and they threw in entire (WAY over-engineered) set of positive battery cables.
So, installing that... battery to battery cable no problem. Pass side battery to starter cable, pain in the butt. I finally get it to the starter and go to hook it up. Now the lead broke off the starter where the larger cable hooks up.
So, that's where I'm at now. I have to change my starter, but I can't figure out how to get it off... lol. I've changed them before on my old Jeep, but that was peanuts compared to this thing. I've gotten off 2 bolts... one from the front, and a bigger one from the back. Both were obviously holding the starter on. It still won't budge. Are there more I can't see?
Second question... Should I try to JB-Weld that lead back on? It doesn't hold any stress, just the cable.
Sorry this is so long for 2 little questions, but I needed to rant a little... lol
You also need to back up and have a green one and then tell Murphy to leave you alone. If you don't have the green one Murphy is gonna stay on your back the rest of the day. Also, JB Weld is not rated for current flow.
There are 3 bolts that hold it on. 2 are obvious, 1 is on the top and hard to get to.
You know what will make that bolt easier to see? There's a miracle elixir on the market called Hot Shot's Secret. Put a dab on the head of that bolt and she'll stand out like a sore thumb!

i replaced mine a while back for the same problem...i remvoed the wheelwell liner to get the top bolt out first then got underneath for the other two..its tight but doable and i am not that mechanically inclined...you can do it just be patient and take your time

+1!
You need to go get some lottery tickets or something. You've got a serious stroke of bad luck going for you.
Also put some of that terminal protection stuff on so you don't run into this problem again. I use it religiously, and I can't recall the last time I've had to change a terminal.
Sure sounds like you have overheated your cables. I can't imagine that many problems otherwise (unless you have left the hood up on the Galveston Bay shoreline with a strong South wind.
Hi,
I have a 05 6.0 PSD. I am missing a bolt for my starter (big one on the bottom). I am trying to figure out what size it is & where I can purchase another one. If any of yall have any information or can direct me to a more exact thread it would be greatly apprecited. Pics of the missing bolt hole are located here, https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/a...p?albumid=4123 Thanks for the help!
