Got somewhat of a problem here. My system is only blowing out of the defrost position and unless I crank up the temp all the way, I only get cold air. I have the automatic climate controls. Sounds to me like I've got two problems, one a vac. leak, the other a bad temp. control. Does anyone have a diagram of the system or run into this before? Is this one electronic control panel or are there separate components etc...?
Also posted this in the 6.0L section. Let's see who's got some answers.
When you say cold air, do you mean AC cold or just no heat cold? If it were me...I'd go after the vacuum problem first. The pump and solenoid is on the passenger side fender well. The vacuum line to the firewall is fairly easy to spot. If you have access to a vacuum pump and a guage it's alot easier to hunt down the leak. Another thing I forgot to mention, do your auto hubs work? They use the same pump.
Already checked the pump. The ESOF is working fine. Also found that I can get heat out of the panel, but not the floor. As soon as I select a setting on the floor, it starts to blow it out the defrost vents. Heat also only works on max heat. When I say cold air, I don't mean that the AC is coming on. Fan speed control is still functional. This is all sort of fishy to me. I bought the truck 7 weeks ago. Dealer had it for the first five, had it four days and then it went back for another week. They initially replaced the cylinder heads. The last time around they replaced the turbo, oil cooler and heater core.
Ok, problem found while the truck was in for a complete fluid change today - not the dealership. I asked the mechanic to have a quick look. Five minutes later he found that the dealership had left a vac line loose behind the glove box.

Maybe the dealership will give you a few bucks back for their screwup.
The shop I took it to is really close to my work, about 100KM from my house. Unfortunately the dealership is 45 min. in the opposite direction. That's what you get for living on an acreage. Going back and fighting with them is just not worth the time or hassle. With my luck they would have the truck for another week. Bought it 8 weeks ago, the dealership had it for five of those. I just want to enjoy it now. It's a nice truck, just a shame that the dealership doesn't know how to fix anything in a decent amount of time or reliably.
