Dual Automatic Climate Control Problems

Dual Automatic Climate Control Problems
I have a 2010 Limited with the dual automatic climate control. On the trip home yesterday, I realized that with the climate control in auto, the drivers side will only blow warm air regardless of what temperature I select. Even when I put it down to 60F it remained warm, whereas the passenger side will independently switch to warm or cold, and gets very cold. I don't hear any clicking from the actuators when I cycle the temp from one extreme to the other. It will switch from defrost, to lap, to feet, so that actuator and blend door seems to be working fine. Anyone know if this might be an actuator or a bend door problem? Im thinking that it must be the actuator that is unfortunately buried all the way at the bottom of the dash. I've read through what I could find on here in the forums, just didn't find the answers that I was looking for.
thanks in advance for the input

Keep in mind that you can always bring this to the attention of your dealership; I know they'd be happy to help. What's your truck's current mileage?

Thank you Crystal for the input, I did just that this morning. Dealership confirmed, that it is in fact the drivers side blend door actuator, and it's going to take them until tomorrow to get it all torn apart and fixed. My extended warranty is finally going to pay off.

Well the dealership finally got my Expedition finished early yesterday and I was able to go pick it up. Over 800.00 in labor to replace a 40.00 part, but everything is fixed and working now. It appears that they the did a decent job taking it all apart and putting it back together again. I did notice a couple minor nicks/ scratches on the dash pieces, which I brought up to my service advisor. I am going back to the dealership on Monday, when they have an interior guy coming who is supposed to touch those spots up. I will let yo all know how that turns out after the fact.

Got the marks on the dash touched up today. Took them like 2.5 hours to finish it. If I look close, I can still see them, and it bugs me a bit, but from a little further away, it looks good. The color matches perfectly and aside from the terrible smell I guess its good to go. I just feel like for the time it took, that it could have been better imo.

Took a long road trip yesterday and the entire way there, the wife was complaining about being cold. On the way back she wanted to drive so I rode shotgun and what do you know, it is freezing cold on the passenger side. Nice warm air coming from the driver side vents and ice cold air coming from the passenger.
Hey ford the next time the great idea fairy comes for a visit, give him a snack and then send him away. The dual climate control is a cool idea and it does work when it actually works but completely unnecessary. Love the truck, but just disappointed by cheap parts that will fail.

Step 1 Avoid the dealer.
Step 2 There are two actuators - one on the bottom and one on the top. They can both be replaced without having to drain down coolants, etc... I've done it. You need to replace them both to restore full reliable functionality.
The bottom actuator requires practicing contortion maneuvers in the front floorboard.
The top actuator requires either customizing wrenches, removing much of the dashboard guts, several hours and a lot of cussing... Or - removing the entire dashboard, which requires removing the driver's door to get the one bolt that has to be accessed from outside the vehicle, beneath a plug right in the area where the mirror meets the body when the door is closed.
In any case - it can be done and doesn't require thousands of dollars in cost at a dealer.
Oh -- and both actuators are the same. They cost about $25.
Use the gear out of the old actuator to align the door to mount the new actuator.
DO NOT DISASSEMBLE THE NEW ACTUATOR TO ALIGN THE GEARS TO MATCH THE DOOR POSITION!!! ALIGN THE DOOR TO MATCH THE NEW ACTUATOR!

different car, but it worked
I have a '13 Lincoln MKX. Same issue, dual hvac and passenger side was freezing. A post somewhere in these forums suggested trying the HVAC self diagnostics. For me I think it was hold power + auto AC buttons, then just power. I didn't see a lot happen, but now the passenger side works as it should. Good luck and stay warm.
