there just different manufactures new process and borg-warner the t19 was the sychonized version of the t18 and they all had different gearing the np435 is the lowest here a link to a good trans site Complete, Turn-Key Transmission Packages for Jeeps

Look at the link below... Novak-adapters - under knowledge - manual transmissions - NP435 or T18/T19
The Borg-Warner T18 & T19 Transmissions - Novak Conversions
I know the NP435 have the aluminum top cover, where the shifter comes out of. The T18 and T19 have cast steel covers.
T18 - The T-18 has a one piece removable cover with a top shifter and looks very similar to the NP-435, however the cover is cast iron, not aluminum. Look for the bottom of the transmission case to taper up toward the rear and the PTO cover plate will be on the driver’s side.
The Ford versions can also be identified by its casting numbers cast into the driver's side of the case, commonly "T18-1E" for earlier units and "13-01" for later units. From 1966 until 1978, many T18s used a T98 shifter assembly. 1979 and newer T18s used a three fork shift cover assembly that shifts reverse gear directly. Because of this, reverse location is on the opposite side of neutral than the earlier version ('66 to '78). Earlier versions reverse gears shifts over and up - later versions shift over and down.
NP435 - You can recognize the NP435 by it’s single piece, aluminum, bolt-on top cover with the shifter sticking directly out of the top and a fitting on the driver’s side for the back up light switch. Most have the letters “NP” inside a circle cast into the cover. The NP435 is sometimes hard to tell from the similar looking T18 or T19. One way to check is with a magnet, which won’t stick to the aluminum top cover of the NP435. The NP435 also has the PTO cover plate on the passenger’s side. Weight is approximately 120 lbs.
The shifting pattern for all of the 435's is in the standard "H" pattern with reverse gear being to the right side, and down.

Don't forget...Ford began installing their TS-OD single rail RUG 4 speed overdrive in 1978 in F100/150's (300 I-6 & 302) and Econolines (300 I-6 & 351W).
This trans is a "weak sister" originally installed in 1976 Granada's with 200/250 I-6's and 302's.
No speed shifting...cuz if you do, you can kiss this little darlin' good bye. Parts are expensive and getting hard to find.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A word of caution inre to the New Process 435 4 speed.
The cap used to retain the shift lever is held on by two pins that protrude from the tower, this cap is notched.
To remove this cap, you press DOWN on it...and hold it down while turning it.
Peeps do not know this, try removing it without pressing down, which tears out the notches. Now you aren't going anywhere.
The good news is, the cap (B8T7220D) is available from Ford for less than 8 bucks.
The Warner T-18 & T-19 retainer cap (8MTH7220) threads on/off.

Cool post Reynard. :)
Early version, late version swapped in from who knows where version.
My '75 doesn't fit the mold sometimes the way those are worded about
where reverse is. I bought my pickup new, but the front bumper had air
hammer marks behind it and a better job of chrome plating too, so I ain't
complaining, it's just that "Ford's intentions" is one thing and practice is
something else.
As far as I'm concerned these are the best things I've seen for knowing
what you are looking at...
I'm so used to seeing that rear section on my T18 tapering up the way it
does the NP435 just jumps out at me as being "not a T18" and looks ugly
and clunky. ;) Funny but the NP435 is said to shift better etc than the T18.
I wouldn't know nuthin about any of that tho! :)
My T18's reverse is right of 3-4 and back toward the seat... right about
where the person sitting in the middle's knee is at. ;)

sounds just about like the 95 F350 at school. we usually have about 8-10 people stuffed in that Crew Cab. then when you gotta back up you can't cause reverse is right where the girl(s) riding in the front seats legs are.

Darn good info here, thread added to favorites. Another aspect of the NP435 is that cool gear whine in second. Never forget that sound. That truck in my sig i how i learned to drive a stick, had a built but very tired 390. Awesome trans with many, many miles on it. Also had a T19 in a '90 F150 straight six, held up to my abuse through high school and still on the road today.

Could have been either one. :)
There may have been a pattern but I'm not experienced enough to have seen it,
so it seems random to me.
Gear ratios...
1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th -R-
T18 ========== 6.32 3.09 1.69 1.00 === r7.44 <--that's a pretty low reverse
ZF M5OD-HD ==== 5.72 2.94 1.61 1.00 0.76 r5.24
Mazda M5OD-R2 .= 3.91 2.24 1.49 1.00 0.80 r3.39
NP435 .======== 6.69 3.34 1.74 1.00 === r8.26 <--check out how low reverse is :)
E4OD ========= 2.71 1.53 1.00 === 0.71 r2.18
Clark282V -===== 6.99 4.09 2.17 1.17 1.00 r5.89
NV 4500 ======= 5.61 3.04 1.67 1.00 0.73 r5.61
T19 = http://www.novak-adapt.com/images/gr...ecs_gasket.gif
How do you remember reverse?
Really slow = T18
Stupid slow = NP435
Did that work for ya? ;) LOL

Where you at?------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------^
Was hoping someone would tell you.
Because I don't know the type of transmission that could even be! :/ LOL
Anyway, you need to find that out first then it'll be simple to find out what
all the ratios they came with. :)

my friend has an NP435 in his 79 F100 with a 300-6 and I have an NP435 in my 77 highboy with a 351m. my question is how many different shift levers(aka sticks) did they use on each transmission? His stick is the exact same shape as mine but it has maybe 6 inches on mine before the ****(do NOT think dirty you perverts). Also, he has a '70 F100 4x4 with a 360 in it, it has 4x4 to the passengers crotch, what can it be?
