Dude! What the hell?

Yes. I watched the whole thing.

I'll wait to see if any comments are forthcoming before I watch Part II.

I watched all 5 parts.................and I don't mind saying that it scares the He** out of me!

Maybe I'm not so crazy for stockpilling food, guns and gold after all............

It would be just like our government to sit on something like this.

Well. We'll see.....

The 1st part didn't do so much more than a) point out that generally things have gotten better in the 21st century, and b) scientific achievements are telling us much more about the Universe, and c) Katrina and the 2004 tsunami really sucked, and d) terms (when talking about disasters) like 'mega' this and 'mega' that have been creeping into the vernacular, and e) Planet 'X' has caused worldwide cataclysms in the past, and f) Planet 'X' is sure to do so again---in the year 2012.......

I about got it right?

I'll watch the other 4.

I'm not laughing, fabman......I've been know to post a thread on comet and asteroid strikes from time to time......

While I don't believe in this, you're not crazy. You sound like a pretty good neighbor to have. Although, I'm not sure what you are going to use the gold for.

OK, I still have to watch parts 3-5, but my initial reacton to part 2 is if planet x was 50 billion miles form earth in 1983, and 9 years later it is only 7 billion miles away, why has it not reached us in the last 16 years? It only took 9 years to travel 43billion miles, but in 16 years it hasn't gone 7 billion?

OK, I'm off to watch part three....

Interesting indeed, They say we will see a Star 3 years before hand, I don't think I will start stock piling yet, but I will be watching events, much the same as I did in the Y2K scare !

Within the vast area of the Milky Way, the center of the universe exists. On the table of the zodiac signs, we perceive only twelve, but unknowingly to some there are thirteen the thirteenth, the center of the universe, from this place no one has any idea about risks. This thirteenth sign known as Ophiuchus , has remained from mankind's knowledge, like it was deliberately shelved.

The ancient Mayan from long ago saw, a cosmic alignment, no one knowing the effects this would have on mother earth. This alignment not only prophesied by the Mayan, but from Nostradamus, a new chapter has been found. In this lost book, this alignment is mentioned, maybe giving way to a new solar system, a new birth.

This is supposed to occur in 2012, but no one knows from this, where the earth or humanity may be bound.

Ophiuchus, the thirteenth sign, in the middle of the Milky Way, the known center of our universe. In 2012, the earth and the sun will be in direct alignment of the thirteenth sign. The way the Mayan and Nostradamus describe this thing, we may be in for some kind of solar curse. In certain records, it is shown it has happened before, but no records showing that everything will be fine.

This prophecy, from two different sources, separated by distance and time. It really makes one wonder, what may occur, no one really knows for sure, but in the deep cold vastness of space, where everything is as silent as a mime. For this documented event, there may be no immediate cure.

Maybe the gravitational pull, will tear our old world apart. Maybe the pull will be so strong, the magma in the earth's core, could be brought to the surface. Something devastating may occur, from the solar system's very heart. The doomsday prophecy, maybe with death we are to share a kiss.

The only thing really known is that December 21st, 2012, this alignment will occur, there is a record of this, but not of the affects it had on mankind. Maybe there is no record of this, because mass extinction did occur ?. So no one knows the answers, until after everything is aligned.

OK, interesting enough, but part 5 really brings it into perspective for me. It seems that it is all about the 'collective', that individual prosperity is bound to the prosperity of the whole. It sounded like it was turning toward a political end... sounded socialist to me. It illustrated a society where there would be no capitalism. I find that hard- almost impossible- to believe, as humans are inherently selfish.

It all sounds pretty far-fetched to me. I'll be looking at several of the references of the movie throughout the next few days.

And Fabmandelux, why do you think gold is going to be a commodity in a scenario like this? I've said it all along, if things go south, waaaaay south like they describe in this movie, gold is going to be worthless. Water and food will be the most valuable commodity available, with guns a close second.

The last bit was all about a collective, non-monetary society, etc, etc. He even uses the Star Trek society analogy. Then gives you a web page where you can go buy his books on how to survive. If he really believes all this, wouldn't he be giving his books away? Or at least selling them for cost or donations?

It sounds a lot like a good way for him to make money to me.

Yes, #5 was a little over the top for me too. A little to Kum-By-Ya if you will. Man will always strive to have just a little more than his neighbor. My interest is mainly in the science behind the whole proposition. We know that there will be a planetary alignment on 12/21/2012. What is different about this one is that it will also align with the center of the galaxy. Something that hasen't happened for over 100,000 years!

Gold...........Gold has always had value, and always will. My gold is not so much for myself, as it is for the future of my family. It may not be needed for the next generation, but what about the one after that?

I have been stocking guns, food, ammo for a while now, and am prepaired to survive without any outside help if necessary. If nothing happens I can always eat the food!

Alright. I just watched part II. Wasn't there a brown dwarf starring in that Billy Bob Thornton movie 'Bad Santa'?

Alright, cheesy jokes aside....I'll have to back up fabman on this point. Gold always has had value. The Dark Ages, the Plague, whatever.....Even during times when folks had barely enough to subsist on themselves....Somebody somewhere did have more than enough, and were willing to trade this for the shiny stuff. Doesn't even matter if there were an established monetary system in place or not.

OK. Now HERE, perhaps, would be a worthy topic to add to this thread. The world is going to s--t, and what can we do to perhaps survive the event? Doesn't matter if it's Planet X, a comet, a supervolcano, whatever........Figure a worldwide cataclysm....What would be the ideal scenario for survival where a small group of folks can survive, then thrive (after a fashion) when the smoke clears. You know, propogate the species and all.

My ideal scenario. Several large families (4 to 6 families with 5 to 8 members in each family......Preferably with 3 to 5 children and teens in the families) banding together. A huge underground complex stockpiled with canned foods of all types, seeds, tools, etc......I'm thinking either you build the damned thing OR you use one of them surplus missile silo bases that come to auction now and again. Have this and a couple of hundred acres to work...and on the leadup to the cataclysm.....Use the land to grow even more food and home 'can' as much as possible----particularly when the Govt comes up with the rationing and laws against 'hoarding' (which will dampen any attempts to buy more food than you can eat in the short term). You can also can fish and game. You have enough folks there to patrol the land also.

The comet hits (or the supervolcano in Yellowstone torches off) and you go underground for however long it takes. When the dust clears, you come back up and try to rebuild and grow. Hopefully you have enough folks there to do it alone. Hopefully there are other groups like yours in the world left to do so also.

Underground cisterns. Plumbing. Ventilation. Some sort of 'light' source to facilitate vitamin D. What food would you stockpile? What books? Medicines? Tools? Seeds? Any small game that could procreate if mammal life took the big dive? What? How much gold?
