ARP studs

My truck is almost out of warrenty and I took it in to the dealer for a puking problem that the truck has had since I bought it. They found an oil leak and have taken the cab off to fix it. No word on the puking problem. Should I have them put in the ARP stud kit while the cab is off? I will have to pay for it but since the cab is already off it should be a lot cheaper. Does anyone know about how much it will cost in labor? I heard the ARP studs are about $650.00.

Thanks Randy

Here's a set for just over $400. Yes, it would be cheaper to have it done while the cab is off but I'm not sure how much the actual labor would be.

The average of all the figures that I have seen, seems to be around $1,900 for the labor. However, that figure is for doing the whole operation, since the cab is already off, I don't know, either way you'll be paying for the labor of taking the cab off. If there is anything else that your wanting to do now would be the time to do it.

i would definately have them put the stud kit in, i got mine for about 500cdn. Also you might want to think about an EGR delete kit. i went with the liberator kit for about 650cdn. Just make sure they torque those studs properly. they have to torque them in the ford pattern walking it up in increments to 280ft/lbs, walk away for a couple hours and hit them again at 280ft/lbs. this is very important as you cant re-torque them without taking the cab off

I had the dealer put in the ARP's when my engine was pulled for a bed plate leak. They charged me around $600 for the labor and parts. The new head gaskets were around $400 of this $600, so the labor bill seems to have been around $200.

I have a picture of it in one of my albums. It is what your oil pan is connected to. It adds strength and rigidity to the engine.

No, the bedplate is a standard, necessary part of the engine.

They are ridiculously expensive. FTE Parts Guy should get them cheaper or a place like powerstrokeshop dot com.

If you go thru the dealership to get them, that is about what they would cost for the set.

Isn't that the full kit with headbolts included? I don't think the dealership will sell you just the gaskets.

then aftermarket ones have to be cheaper and if that's the case then why would anyone stay with stock gaskets if they have to put the studs in on their own dime?

Absolutely!

Make sure they bench test the EGR cooler and engine oil cooler as well.
