1995 F250 Oil Leak

I am new to the site and new to owning a diesel. I have a 1995 Ford F250 7.3L Powerstroke. I noticed that there is an oil leak, it is small, it will only leave a few drops if you leave the truck running in one spot. It looks like it is coming from the engine valley and then running down the back of the engine. So, I don't know if it is coming from the HPOP o-rings or the turbo pedestal mount o-rings? What do you guys think? If you think it is the HPOP o-rings or the turbo pedestal mount o-rings, can you tell me how to replace those and where is the best place to buy the o-rings?

Thanks!

welcome to FTE...I know about as much as you do about these trucks...but I always goto IH before Ford for engine parts....usually 50% cheaper...enjoy your truck!!!

You need to find out where it's coming from. There are many places for fuel/oil leaks in the valley. Get the engine valley clean and dry then fire it up and look for leaks.
Cleaning the valley can be tedious but it's better than throwing parts at it. Remove the decorative engine cover and the heat shield over the fuel lines going to and from the filter and pump. Lots of light is your friend. Use a long screwdriver or similar to poke into the nooks and crannies. Any de-greaser with lots of water will get it clean. No hi pressure water....just flood the valley and let it run out the drain hole. Raising the front of the truck helps drain it faster.

OK, I will clean the valley once it warms up a bit here. Where would the most common places be for it to leak, so I can keep an eye out for it in that area?

Clean it up as memtioned. If you can't see a leak (hpop plugs, oil lines, etc.) its probably the pedestal o-rings, my guess.

Go here and down load the files you want:
Lots of good info and pictures:

The drops on the ground you find can be difficult to determine if it's oil or fuel until you see where it's coming from. A fuel leak can combine with the oil in the valley looking like an oil leak and vise-versa. Dripping from the bell housing area can also be a rear main seal or a front trans seal...both are very rare.
Common leaks:
Fuel pump
Turbo pedestal
Anything attached to the HPO & fuel rails cast into the heads
Plugs and hoses on the rear of HPOP
There are 2 plugs in the front and rear of each head. 1 fuel, 1 oil

OK, thanks for the info Cuda_jim! I will look at all of those areas. From what I can see is it is coming from the valley, down the drain hole, and running down the side of the oil pan and dripping off the oil drain plug. I am going to have to look a little closer to narrow it down, but thanks for the advice on some areas to look!!

Like Jim said, fuel can look like oil in the valley. A very common fuel leaker in our trucks is the fuel filter restriction sensor. Being as you have a 95 the sensor is located on the rear (firewall side) bottom of the fuel filter housing. Just somethin to look at, thats where my leak and a bunch of others I've seen are from.

If it is leaking there it will definitely be easiest to remove the Y pipe to replace it or plug it.
