Ok, been looking at the 05-07 grill conversion kits on ebay for $365!!! seems to me a bit high as one can buy a 2005-2007 grill for a 2005-2007 truck for less than $100. it is onlyin the retrofitting of these grills that we get into some dollars!! has anyone seen these kits? is it that difficult to modify them to fit our trucks? surely there is a cheaper way to do it than buying one of these expensive kits. just my .02 and i could be completely wrong, i would think if it could be done someone around here would have already done it or at least know about it. all advice is welcome! thanks!!
I haven't seen the kits, but if you trim the bottom edge of the 05 grill so it fits near our bumper, you should be able to make it work. You might have to rig the attachment a little to get it to fit our header panel, but others have done it this way.
Not to hi-jack from the OP but will the 05 grill work on the 99-04 header panel if you have the 05' front bumper? Mine is in the shop now,I should get it back tomorrow(I hope) but I had the 05' bumper put on it,but the morons put the old grill back in,cause they told me it didn't have anything to fasten to on the bottom. And there is a big gap between the old grill now to the bumper. I plan on getting the header panel in a few weeks, but Im just wondering if I can make it work until then. There is a picture in my gallery of it,but you can't really tell the gap size.
It is super easy to cut yourself. For the price of that one you can screw up a couple and still be cheaper... LOL.
Just get your grille you want. Mask it all off with tape. Mount it on the truck. Then slide the bumper up to the bottom. Trace what you want to remove. Start with like an 1 inch or so. Then use a dremel tool or a cut off wheel. We actually used a table saw to do the first cut....it was pretty funny. Then after every cut we would remount the grille and check it. Once we started getting close to the right profile we used a palm sander to get it right on the money. It takes some time but well worth it.
I wouldn't give that guy 365 bucks for that grille...

Don't bother with the header panel. Just zip tie the bottom back and you will be fine. The main support of the grille is the top anyways.
Look on e-bay. I have cut a few grills, for myself and some friends, and what I've found works the best is a dremel with a diamond cutting wheel. They won't melt the plastic or chip the chrome. No you don't need the new header panel, 2 black zip ties work just fine. The kits are a lot, If you know how to use masking tape and a dremel, I think you're qualified for the job!
