We used to reverse the gear in 10 and 15 spd's to get a high overdrive this would reverse the shift pattern in the top gears but it wouldn't give us another gear.

You would have to phisacally put another set of gears in there to have a 5spd looking inside a T19 where would you put them.

Not to get too political, but Washingtons spending a lot of money and their proving that its not going to fix the problem!

Personally, If I had the cash id rather have a gearvendors over an extra gear on the tranny. With 4.10 im in 5th gear at about 35mph and tend to skip gears all the time anyway.

The only time another gear would be beneficial is when im hauling a trailer and shifting between 2nd and 3rd, other wise an extra overdrive would allow the shifts to be closer together and provide an overdrive to the 4 speed and a double overdrive to the 5 speed.

I retract my previus statement.

With enough money you can build just about anything. The rediculous goverment spending won't fix the economy but may fix the national debt. The more inflation gose up the less our national debt is worth. The funny thing about DC is I swear Nancy Polosi, I bet I spelled that wrong, was never ellected president. Ok I'm done with the political stuff.

Gonecrazyi If you do mostly highway driving a larger tire would also help bring the RPM down at cruise. With the 4.10s and 35"s on mine and the E4OD wich I belive has a lower overdrive than the 5 speed, some body tell me wich trans it is because I cantt thing of it and it realy bugging me right now, I had a good cruise RPM on the high way and it worked out to be the same as having 3.55s it just didn't get quite the millage of a 3.55 truck around town but was ery comparable on the highway and much cheaper than a gearvenders and the like.

ZF 5 overdrive was .77 or.76 depending on which of three gearsets you have.

E4OD overdrive is .71 which means .05 or .06 more driveshft RPM than engine RPM.
engine RPM / overdrive ratio = driveshaft RPM
2000 / .77= 2597
2000 / .76= 2631
2000 / .71= 2817

Im putting a set of 305s on my truck once I get the front ball joints and tie rods replaced, again!

hopefully this will help with the mpg numbers.

Ive been getting 13.5 -14.5 in the winters and up to 17 in the summers if I drive extremely nice.

The only problem with bigger tires is it takes a little longer to get a 10000lb trailer moving, oh well, looks and economy for speed I guess.

Heavy towing with larger tires will increase the load on the U joints/driveshaft.
I did notice an increase in U joint replacement frequency when I went from 235 to 285 tires on my truck.
