Hydraulic Electronic Unit Injection, right?
=)
HEUI is just referring to the Firing style of the injectors.
Hydraulic being as the Injectors are Oil fired, instead of crystal fired like other injectors.
It's a great system, it just cannot keep up with big power due to some constraints.
I like it because it is one of the safest styles for running a Diesel, or any vehicle for that matter. Truck wont run if there is not any oil to fire the injectors.
I always remind people of the test they made a while back. Cummings, Chevy Diesel, and PSD were all tested in a lab.
They were ran for x time, then drained of oil while running. The PSD shut off first, and the Cummings ran the longest.
The cummings people were ragging on me saying how great the engine was and how dumb I was to be a Ford guy, cause dodge was so much better. When their *******es didn't think about which engine was siezed up and which one would still run after you refilled the oil. =)

yeah, thanks i was looking at some fuel injectors when i was typing that lol.
i hate to take up for dodge on a ford site, but the cummins is one heck of an engine. the OBS had the 12v beat when it came to being able to modify them, but ford has done nothing but go downhill since then and dodge has taken many steps forward. if i had to buy a new truck right now it would either be a dodge or a 6.4 that i would switch over to a 7.3.
actually the old 12 valve ve pump were rated 160hp but they were actually about 200 and you could get 250-275hp just by turnin a couple screws and the p pumped 12 valve is the beast you can get 350-400hp just with light pump modifications there are a bunch of 1000hp plus p pumped 12 valves out there
I dont know if its still true as they've been selling off a lot of stuff in the last few years, but doesnt Ford own Cummins? Or at least they used to assumming,....

no they don't and i don't believe ever have....
double overtime is NOT running twin p-pumps, he is running a mechanical pump off of a big mack v8, a p-pump only has 6 fuel lines coming from it lol....
there is some work being done to get some rpm out of our 7.3, swamps is doing a lot of work on this and so are some private guys, hopefully they will get finished up soon since it looks like 5k rpm and making a bunch-load of power will be possible for us once they get that figured out... the problem is the amount of time it takes for the injectors to "open" "close" and "refill (with oil and fuel)" and another problem is the aeration that occurs during that process... but that problem is only a problem of deteriorating the oil in the pan... they are attempting to get the PCM to actually listen and get the injectors to open and close when they want them to, instead of trying to "correct" the tuning and making them fire in a shorter pulsewidth or at the wrong timing... basically our PCM, injectors, and tuning are not cooperating....
the 6.4 is, right now, our best bet at finally cracking 1000hp with the same injection system that came in the truck...
but then again there's lots of cummins guys running a 24v cummins using 12v heads and a p-pump (came off of the 12v and other trucks, NOT related to the 24v at all) so why can't we call double overtime a psd anymore?
yes ford did but its was long again and mostly for the f600s and up
i don't believe they ever OWNED any part of cummins... they USED cummins in their bigger trucks and still do!! i think the f550 and up now has an option for a CAT, cummins, or a psd... but ford does not and never did own any part of cummins
im ready for cat to throw some engines in our ford trucks [f250-350]
ford had a deal with cat to replace the 6.0 but the deal fell through when cat said they wanted their name on the side of the truck on the powerstroke badge. and no, ford has never owned any part of cummins. however, daimler chrysler has bought out navistar. which means technically the new powerstroke is a dodge.
daimler chrysler has bought out navistar. which means technically the new powerstroke is a dodge. hmmmm really thats why the new powerstrokes are not anygood anymore
hmmm, i may be wrong about daimler and navistar. i read the article about it not too long ago, but i cant find anything about it on either of their websites.
