Is it the same on all trucks? I've heard the front is 18 and the back is 19.2 . But 19.5 in front would make sense since I can put 17 gallons in when i still have a 1/4 tank left. I've got a single cab 4x4 and I always got more miles from the back tank. Used to get 350 miles on the bank tank, no I cant get 200. Cant find a leak tho so I just quit using it.
even cosiderably under the e mark the most diesel ive put back in my tank front or back was about 15.2 gallons
The sizes I quoted in my previous post are the OE ford replacement sizes available for a 96 F250 xc 4x4 with a 7.3 PSD. I checked a dozen are so places and the sizes at all the sites were all the same for the OE tanks.
You got to remember when they say it is a 19 gal tank it will not hold 19 gals of fuel? It has to leave room in the tank for the fuel to vaporize during hot weather. So a 17 gal tank will only hold around 15.5, maybe 16 gals the rest of the tank volumn is reserved for fumes.
The biggest reason you guys aren't getting as much fuel in the tank is due to the fuel gauges being very generous on the bottom end. I don't recommend this but run the tank down till the truck starts to run out of fuel. You will be surprised how far past E the needle will go. Then fill it up. I adjusted the needle on my gauge and did the Filler neck mod. I run each down to E then fill up and I put 36 gallons in at each fill.
any you with a 97 4 x 4 have a plastic front tank? mine is and i have put over 22 in it when purt near empty. my 95 has a metal tank and it is a lot smaller i guess a 19
My 96 has plastic in the front and steel in the back, my 97 CC DRW was the same way.
