I ordered the Dynomax headers from summit, only issue i have is my starter gets hot and will not start and i have to wait till it cools down. I hope when i wrap them it will solve the problem.

i have some hooker 27" long tubes and they fit fine. No heat wrap and the starter still works fine though it is close. Mine is a highboy though so a little different than a regular 4wd.
umm it was like jan. 07 when i got mine. and it was from the hooker website. But looking on there now it doesnt seem they have the 27" anymore. just 30 and 31".
I just installed them on my 71 4x4 with a 390. I did have clearance issues with the motor mount braces that attach to the frame on both sides. I was installing a fresh motor but I will say they would not be simple bolt on installs!
Of note, when I fired it up for the first time all the paint on them vanished in a cloud of smoke. I think they came from the factory with a coating of Krylon

Gatta watch these blanket statements. Not ALL of Hedman's headers have clearance issues nor does ALL of their coatings vanish in a cloud of smoke. You get what you pay for. The Elite series are fine for at least a 76 F250 4x4 and have had none of the issues you have described.
I think the issues are with a pre 1973 frame style.I have a '72 frame under my '73,and that could possibly be the problem
I'm not disagreeing with you, I thought like the 67 ?? or earlier ?? to 1976.5 F250 4x4 frames were the same? Mayby I'm wrong, but I keep reading about header issues on this site. I can only state that Hedman Elites fit as described on my 76 F250 4x4 with a "real" 390. I did use a aftermarket starter. They fit great, the coating did not "Vanish", the "FORD type" flared fitting at the collector is still sealed tight with no leaks, etc. I'll admit, it's only been about 12,000 miles since I've installed them. They are 14 guage tubes, 3/8" flange, (but not ceramic coated..GRR) the best Hooker brand were 16 guage tubes for my truck. I refused to pay about 1K for stainless headers. I'm sure somebody here got 23 years out of 20 guage "junior junk" header's and will report here, and swear they never had a flange or collector leak, and use the cheapest OR most expensive gasket's...their truck sit's alot, or they are just not telling the full truth...) Just search on "headers" . Some stories, like mine are almost unbelievable
I made some really good looking mods to the braces, I will post photos if anyone is interested. The starter... What a headache. I had to lift the engine via the hoist, remove mount brace and install starter, get header in, lower engine and button it up. I hope that starter never fails because removal and replacement will be the same.
My guess on header clearance issues may be because the braces are different from year to year. Otherwise they fit perfectly.
And then I found the headers had about 1-2mm clearance between the braces.
