Bug/Rock Deflector

How many of you use hood bug deflectors ?? I was thinking of putting one on my 2006 f250 psd but i was unsure if it really helped at all. Both my ranger and f150 had them and i dont believe they made much difference, except looks wise. Any thoughts appreciated...

i have one on mine, after several cross country trips and driving through the night, i am 100 percent convinced they do help keep the bugs from smearing up the windshield alot.

i had one on my 1995 f350 and took off later because it got broke and i thought it looked better without it, i could tell the difference right away.

My truck had one on it when I bought it. I think it does seem to help. When I'm driving I can sometimes see bugs and such that get swept up a foot or so before the windshield, presumably caught in the air stream.

But, driving through the right parts of Cali for about 300 miles in the late afternoon-evening, and that windshield still gets COVERED.

I figure when is worn out/broken I'll just leave it off and see how the bug situation goes, and if it gets worse then I'll get a new one.

...not so much worried about the bugs. It deflects stones nicely and keeps the front of the hood from getting dinged up. Mine did NOT come with one, but it didn't take me long to get one for it. Hood is just the right height for the stones. I've seen them bounce onto the deflector now and continue on OVER the roof.

I installed my Lund Trident and am happy with both looks and appearance. No drill installation. You will still get some bugs, but I appreciate the rock protection.

As far as the bugs are concerned, Rain-X makes clean up very easy. And I almost never use my wipers.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. I think ill spend the 60 or 70 bucks and get one. Cheap enough protection for the hood and shield. Ill go black, should match the silver truck well !!

For the guys that have the deflectors.....I'd like to get one, but every one I have seen sits on the grill when the hood is closed. I saw one that I think was a Ford version at a car show in Dover, that did not appear to sit on the grill.

I don't want to mess up my grill, in trying to protect something else.

I just ordered a Lund X-Terminator for my '06 F250. I think the amount of protection you get depends on the style. I've had them on my Ranger that worked will and then on a Dakota that didn't do much. The one on the Dakota was a "low profile." I think that is code for "provides little to no bug protection!" Anyway, the X-Terminator is a full height model and does not sit on the hood (easier to keep it clean under there).

Mine is a full height one that does not sit on the grill. If one did sit on the grill I would think that it wasn't installed correctly, like the double sided tape installations that weren't laid out right.
