Here's how I modified my F1's air deflector to work with my radiator. I'm using the mid 70's dodge pu radiator that Bobby researched, and it's several inches shorter than stock. This would leave a large opening where the air could go over the top rather than though the fins. The photo shows the deflector from the rear or radiator side. I'll place a piece of split rubber hose on the rear edge to protect the radiator tank, then prime and black hammer tone.
That looks like it should work good! Post up a pic when you get it installed.
I did mine a little different. I eliminated my hood deflector and made one to direct all of the air through the grille opening. Can take a pic if anyone is interested....
Since I filled in the vent openings in the front of the hood, there was no way for air to flow through the top of the radiator. It also made the stock air dam kinda useless. So I bent up some sheet metal to fill the space in front of the radiator behind the hood latch. The piece is attached around the edges and sets about a 1/4" from the radiator. This way the air is forced through the rad and doesn't get lost under the hood. That's my theory anyway.....FWIW
No problem, Scott. That looks great! I have the stock openings so I had seal the top off. Other wise, I could have done what you did and made a cool cold air induction thru the hood nostrils. Ross, I just bent it over the edge of my bench.
I had considered fabbing some "induction" tubes from the hood nostrils to my air cleaner. In the end I don't think it will help me much with the way I use the truck.
I have a Dodge truck radiator in mine. I just eliminated the hood air deflector and I figured I could fab up a piece similar to what Scott did. Mine should be alot easier as the top of the radiator core is even with the hood latch panel. Here's an older pic, you can see I don't have much of a gap to fill, 3-4" maybe;
Bobby, I'm using the stock radiator support with my dodge radiator, and I mounted it behind the support. Even with the support in the 6 cylinder position, I have a large gap from the hood latch panel to the upper tank. Mine sits alittle higher too. We drink Coors here in Colorado.
LOL...I guess you have to when you're that close the bottling plant. Do they still give tours and let you see the bears peeing in the bottles?? Just kidding
I ended up fabbing my own radiator/fender support saddle (for the life of me I can't remember why now....) The pic is a little decieving, the front of the radiator is approx even with the raised lip on the front fenders. And I figured out that if you mount the fan on the front of the engine, instead of a beer box, it helps tremendously with cooling.
