Exclamation Torq Shift Issue

Hey,
I have a 04 f350 w/6.0 powerstroke and the 5spd torq shift. it started as a little studder going in to reverse, it didn't seem to be getting worse but yesterday when i was heading over to the parts store it wouldn't shift into over drive. the check engine light came on and the tow/haul switch started flashing. once i got back i checked the codes and came up with a P0766 code. the haynes manual doesn't really go into detail about the tranny but anyway today I got a filter and transmission fluid and dropped the pan. there wasn't hardly any clutch material in the bottom of the pan. i call the local dealer and they weren't much help with figureing out what cylnoid it was so they said to take them all out and clean them and put them back in. i did what they said and it goes into reverse like a new truck but i still don't have over drive. the dealer has the overdrive cylniod in stock but im not sure which one it is once i drop the pan again. any idea's? i was surprized the the dealer told me that a new transmission from ford was only 2659.00 w/ a 3 year 100,000 mile warrenty that was good at any ford dealer. im hopeing to just replace the 5th gear cylnoid. thanks

Try unplugging the battery for about 20 min to clear the code. If it comes back you will probably need a new solenoid. They are not that bad, I have a local tranny guy that says he can get ALL of the solenoids for around $75, he said that alot of used car lots get him to work on there tranny's and when he gets a torqshift in, he replaces every solenoid. Also do you know if the transmission has had the fluid flushed? I bought a truck that had a bad tranny it ended up being a bunch of fried solenoids from a tranny flush with the wrong fluid. Only use mercon sp.

More then likely there is another code in there as well that your scanner isn't picking up.

The intermediate clutch is the weakest link in these trannies and that includes the solonoid that handles the 3-5 shift.

You probably do need a better scan tool. The P0700 code is a very generic code. It doesn't say much more than something is wrong. A better tool might be able to tell you if you have a solenoid problem.

I use autoenginuity with Ford Enhancement license and highly recommend that product. I have 2 other enhancement license to cover all the vehicles that my family has, but I would suggest that product and you'll be able to do alot more with it than you would probably ever need.

You keep talking about overdrive being 5th gear.

It's a 6 speed & here's some previous info.:

The Torqueshift was installed in 2003 PSD trucks equipped with the 6.0.

The transmission is really a 6-speed

1st = 3.09:1
2nd = 2.20:1
3rd = 1.54:1
4th = 1.09:1
5th = 1.00:1
6th = 0.71:1

The transmission only uses 5 gears at a time depending on engine temperature.

Cold Engine Temps = 1,2,3,4,6
Warm Engine Temps = 1,2,3,5,6"
