I'm in the middle of changing out my #8 injector and have a couple of questions while the wife stole my parts runner. Are you sucking the oil out of the cylinder via the glow plug hole? If not, I'm assuming that you need to use a piece of rigid plastic tubing to get pasat the injector hole? How do you know when all the oil/fuel is out? It's sure hard to get a good look in there...
I crank it over by hand a couple of times to remove most of the oil, then unplug the CPS & pull the IDM fuse, install the injector, remove the glow plug, and give it a few short cranks with the key to blow most of the remaining oil out.
It will still smoke when you get it all back together and start it up the first time, but it clears up pretty quick.
Start with shop rags around the base of the injector and blow out what does get in there with compresed air. I use some brake cleaner in there then blow it out some more but people look at me funny when I spray something in there.
That bucket is the bomb.. I am going to get started on that tomorrow !.. I have been just using the shop vac but that has way more possibility...
The mess goes in the bucket and not the vac. Just a word of caution, my 4HP vac will collapse the bucket if I don't have the tube I am not using open. The larger tube will fit through the GP and HPOP reservoir hole.
Bob.. That is exactly how i did mine. Syringe. Nice pics.. But got a little arm pump pulling that sucker. SO i got rid of the hose and wedged in a piece of 1/4" metal tube. But now i am amost done with my bucket trap.. Cool.
Chris when we did mine we unplugged the GPs and put the truck in nostart and cranked here over that would work as well wouldn't it?

What did you do to put it in no start? Unplugging the GP's will only disable the glow plugs, but will still allow the truck to start. Besides, if he's only got one valve cover off, if you want to disable the GP's, it would be easier to unhook the GPR.
I don't mind turning the engine over by hand with the injector removed, but don't like the idea of a full compression stroke with the starter if the injector is not in place. I'd hate to think the injector cup would move. I could be wrong on this, but I prefer to just pull the glow plug to be on the safe side.
