Yes, it's an ELC. The guy in charge of Power Production at my guard unit runs some kind of purple stuff -- can't remember which kind it is though. He used to run the same stuff in his Cummins, before he sold it.
I think so -- just make sure whatever it is shows that it's for heavy duty use, and should show the specs for International/Navistar, Cummins, CAT, etc, etc, etc....

Why? Do you like purple that much??
Naw! Last time I was in International I think is where I saw it. Wondered why they were selling it...didnt know if it was something "special"!
I hope its safe to run in our trucks...If not, I'm screwed! I've had it for 10k er so. I got it from my local IH dealer. I think what I have is Fleetrite brand(not sure though) and I guess you could call it purple, looks kinda redish to me.

You sure you got all of the old coolant out? Green and purple make red?

I guess I skipped over that part.
As long as it "looks kinda reddish", then it's purple. As long as it looks purple in the bottle.
Maybe double check your bottle, see if there's a spec on it somewhere that says Cat EC-1. If it doesn't say that, you're good to go. If it does say Cat EC-1, then you in fact will have RED coolant, or ELC. And it will look pink in a coolant hydrometer.
Before I changed to the Peak Final Charge ( CAT EC-1 approved), I ran the standard green coolant with SCA's. The WixCool additive, I used, was purple and turned my green coolant to a reddish color when added in the proper amount. It almost looked like the Red ELC, but still needed maintenance. With the Final Charge, no maintenance is needed for 300k miles.
We also use a red ELC 50/50 coolant in our OTR trucks, at work, but it still requires the SCA maintenance. Most of the newer trucks have an extended life coolant filter loaded with "slow release" SCA pellets. Those without coolant filers use the CAT EC-1 coolant.
Purple antifreeze is NOT ELC. It's the new green. I've been putting it in trucks at work for the last couple years now.
They still make green for automotive though.
And that Fleetrite stuff, you might want to take a closer look at it, it might just be blue.
Purple is safe for your trucks. It's still got to be mixed 50/50 with water though, same as the green.
The Fleetrite I have is an ELC. Its been a while since I changed over so I dont have any off the jugs left. I talked with the guy at the IH dealer when I bought it so unless he didnt know what he was talking about I'm safe.

My truck never had the green coolant in it. Mine came with the yellow ELC.
