First oil analysis...

Just got results back from BS and they said everything was well within specs despite running almost 6500 miles on this oil change. (long road trips with no time)

Im still running Rotella Dino and Ive seen the dino vs. synthetic debates throughout the last few months but BS has said I could run it out to 7500 miles and test again. I dont think I will go too much over 5K if I can help it, but if this is the case and I could go to 7500, and I get MAYBE 1 case of the romps a year is there any reason for me to switch over to synthetic?!

Im going to try and post the report on here if possible.

Yes -- you could go to 10k and not get ANY romps!!

I run Rotella Dino and my truck will romp on the really cold mornings, but not that often. I should do the UOA's, but I'll just keep changing it around 5k and feel good about it.

Tristan, post up your results when you get the chance. Also, was this CI or CJ spec?

Finally got it. It was just too large of a file at first!

A few numbers really out of range. Not sure what they mean so I cant worry or be happy!

That looks really good. The iron is the main wear metal. There should be an explanation off everything somewhere on the sheet. Copper is bearings. Additive in some oils.

I was more concerned about the calcium, zinc, and phosphorus levels. They dont seem THAT important but then again theyre included and mine are more than a lil off!

I usually change my oil every 3k miles. This is maybe the 2nd or 3rd time Ive gone over 3k. Glad I did this. I dont have to worry about it as much as I previously did thinking I was hurting it!

3K is major overkill. I was at almost 9K on my last UOA at Blackstone labs recommendation and that was on regular Rotella T. I am now on Full synthetic Schaeffers and am coming up on 5K. I will take a sample and send it off and see where I am at, but I expect at LEAST 10K and probably more.

Jeremy will give you some insight into those numbers you have questions about. I think they are contaminants from the air like silicon, so you want them as low as possible but I am not 100% on that.

I run reg 15-40 as well. My analysis was "great". Im just south of Richmond, VA and it doesnt get THAT cold here. Im gonna try to explain the romps as best as I can. I may or may not be on it when it comes to the technical part but you will definitely know when your truck romps. When it is that cold the oil(15/40) is too thick(??) and our injectors fire off the oil and the thick, cold oil starves the injectors it romps a few times like its starving for fuel. Thats my best interpretation...dont know if Im right or not!
