The wheel itself takes a 15/16" socket and 1/2" ratchet and extension if
the socket's not a deep well. Yeah, it can be done with 3/8" drive stuff.
And a "steering wheel puller" and two of the same length bolts (3" to 5"
long) with 5/16-24 threads.
Just pulled the wheel on my '75 F100 parts truck and somebody used a
8mm or course threaded 5/16" bolt in the wheel's threads and screwed
them up a little. That and the headlights being screwed down without the
lugs being in their recesses are the only funny things I've found and I've
taken the whole thing apart. :)
Thanks Avin,
How about the horn button itself? That's what I was concerned about messing up. I wasn't sure if you just peeled up the rubber cover to get to the screws or if you can reach the screws from the back side of the wheel.
regards, Joel
there's 2 screws on the back of the steering wheel, take those out and the whole front of the steering wheel will come off. Unplug the wires and that's it.
If your lucky you can use your knees behind the wheel and push up from side to side and it might pull off. Be careful not to pull on it to hard. My 78 came off this way.

ive done that in a couple junyyards,,pull to yard and you be eating the steering wheel if it does come off
Have you heard that 90% of chevy's are still on the road today? Thats because the other 10% actually made it home safely. that 10% should play the lottery, they would win, then they could buy a Ford.
Just be careful with the horn pad when you remove the screws, and don't tighten them up very tightly after installation. After 30 years these horn pads can be very brittle and break easily.
