hey guys been a long time since I have been on here and I know this question has been asked before but I want to change my manual three on to tree to auto and have already got the power steering box pump etc just need to get a c4 tranny and an auto column I am not sure but I think I read somewhere you can you use a 73-79 column if that is the case can I put my 69 steering wheel on them thanks in advance
as a follow up I have been quoted 550 bucks for a recon auto power steering column I am sure I might be able to do better than that if I pick up a column cheap and get it reconditioned
The steering column harness connections of a Bumpside will be different from a Dentside column. Bumpside will have two, separate wiring connectors. The Dentside will have one, larger, single connector.
Trucks through 1977 had the NSS (Neutral Safety Switch) on top of the column tube, inside the truck, near the firewall. In '78, this was done away with and the NSS was moved to the side of the transmission.
Not that a Dentside column can't be installed in a Bumpside --I have a tilt column from a '78 F150 in my '69 F100. Just be aware that there are some differences.
thanks ultra ranger I may just have to bite the bullet and go with what I have been quoted its about the same price for an aftermarket column new at least it will fit right in with no mods getting to old to mess around with stuff once again thanks
