Yeah, no problem. I used to ignore codes because I had no idea how the hell to pull them. After learning how to pull them, I made them my first step in diagnosing a drivability problem. I hated the computer system until I found out how to work with it. Good luck!
yeah, ill didnt have time to pull the codes yesterday, between putting my subs in, and going muddin in my 76. and today i have church and am leaving for a college visit, so ill pull em when i get the time and let you know what they are so you can tell me what they mean.
They simple plug into the diagnostic port on any 1996 and newer vehicle. The port is required by law to be within 3 feet of the drivers seat. Most people permanently install it in their primary vehicle and then buy a spar cord to use in other vehicles.
This neat little tool can read all codes, even the ones that won't set the Check engine light. And reset the light. Tells the engine operating parameters when the light lit. It can show engine temp, rpm, mph, distance driven, mpg, miles to drive until empty, miles per tank, constant mpg readout, tps, Inlet air temp, mass air flow, closed or open loop, fuel pressure (in some vehicles), trans temp (in some vehicles), engine load. Sine you can see the constant mpg you can learn to operate your vehicle in the most efficient way.
I just got one to trouble shoot my 96 and am impressed.
Check it out.

Yeah, post any codes you get when doing your self test. I have a list of all of them, and between me and everyone else on this page we ought to be able to help you figure out what the hell is going on! Good luck with your college visit, try to check out the academic facilities instead of just the booze scene, I've been there and done that!
I would suggest you check your codes as well. Unless you are hauling a large amount of weight around in the bed. My dad gets a consistantly gets 12 or 13 (14 once) in his '97 F250HD SC 4x4 with the 460, E4OD, and 4.10s. He gets about 8 when he is towing his fifth wheel.
Here's where your spout might be and exactly what it looks like if you haven't found it yet.
Also, be careful running injector cleaners, they can knock crap loose from your gas tank and help clog your injectors even more.
It's worth the money to just pull them and send them to Gordon at WitchHunter Performance.
You CAN in fact remove most smog/emissions related systems without any ill effects.
You WILL have better luck with long tube headers, not shortys.
It DOES do wonders if you gut your cats.
I noticed a major difference when I did it to mine.
You should only have one emissions pipe going to your exhaust and you can eliminate that.
Also, replace the fuel filter if you haven't done so since adding any fuel cleaners.
i dont mean to brag or nothing but my old 95 f250 with a 460 got 15 highyway and about 12 city and it had 285,000 miles. i wake up every day regreting geting rid of her.
i regulary get 14.5 mpg hwy in my '92 f-250 4x4 460,e4od with shift kit K&N replacmet air filter wraped the factory air tubes and box with thermal tape removed smog pump no cat dual 2.5 exaust flowmaster super 40 with 4.10's and 285/75/16 mud tires thing street tires might get me to 15mpg. might take a look at this for mor ideas FOUR WHEELER Magazine's Project M.P.G.
I get 11 mpg with my 93 F-250 460 S/C 2wd WHILE hauling a 9 1/2 ft cabover camper weighing 2,500lbs, TOWING a 2,500lbs boat and 500to 600lbs of gear. 10mpg if I climb 6%passes at 6,000ft elevation doing 60mph with this load, 13.5 unloaded with just the canopy on it. The only real mods are headers and exhaust...........You guys getting 7 and 8 mpg, just need to keep your foot out of the floorboard and use less skinny pedal!.
What sucks is I only get 13 to 14 highway with my my 351 and I have to go 55 mph to get that mileage. I have a C6 and 4.10s though, with overdrive I would be able to get a lot better mileage. When I got the truck from my grandfather it was getting 9 or 10. Damn thing had a bad O2 sensor, plugs, cap, and rotor. I would be looking into swapping in something with overdrive but most of my driving is around town (work is less than 2 miles) with a few trips to the next town over (6 miles) and the C6 is just so damn tough I would not want to get rid of it. Getting a Gearvendors and therefore turning my 3 speed into a 6 speed would be pretty cool though...
ok, STILL havent had time to pull the codes. and i will admit, sometimes i get a little heavy on the throttle (bout 80mph), but usually only to pass. most of the time its just highway with the cruise at about 65 or 70.
