I was wondering how much most places charge to install a body lift? I installed my own suspension lift on my truck but the truck won't fit in the garage anymore and i don't really feel like doing it on the driveway. thanks.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-Jan-02 AT 02:19 AM (EST)]I have never actually installed one, but have seen quotes before, there around in the 400-dollar range.
There is a 4wheel drive center called "Kerstner's Trans. & 4 Wheel Drive" in Appleton.
I am a fellow Wisconsinite and have heard of that place, also there’s one in Osh Kosh called "Friday Off Road".
Here’s an idea, now it may sound dumb, but it may work.
You said you wanted to do it yourself in your garage, well I think you can, depending on how tall your garage is.
Do you have some old rims lying around like 4 of them?
What I was thinking is, put the lift on in you garage, take your tires off, then just put the rims on, and roll the truck out the garage. If it does not fit in the garage than you may have to put the rims on before you put it in the garage.
When its out side throw on your 35, and your set.
Even if you went to the junkyard and picked up some old steel rims you'd probably be ahead money wise, than if you had it done.
Gee I hope I didn’t just dumben the forum??? Does that sound stupid?
I think most places charge around $400-$500 for the install. I would say go ahead and do it in your driveway. It onle takes about 6 hours or less. I installed a suspension lift and bodylift in my driveway near Buffalo, NY last january working on it nights after work. There's no experiance like laying in a foot of snow torching holes in the frame of your truck at 3 am
Thanks for all the replys. As for shops around here, Kerstners is the place where i buy most of my stuff from. They want 650 bucks for the install and 125 for the kit. So if it isn't too hard i'll be doing it myself. Am i going to need any special tools at all? And am i going to need a torch, cause i don't have one right now. Its going on a 95 F-150 supercab. Thanks guys.
I put a body lift on my jeep so I've had a little experience doing it. The biggest problem I had was the old bolts got rusted in the body and broke when I tried to remove them. So start spraying them with penetrating oil a few days in advance. If you can get to both ends of the bolts that may not be an issue, such as the bed bolts. I used a high-lift jack with a 2X4 between the jack and body. Do one side at a time so you don't get your body out of alignment. You will possibly have to lower your radiator to put it back in line with your fan. Depending on how much lift you're doing you may have to modify shift linkage, clutch linkage if applicable. Also watch your brake lines, any wiring between frame and body and gas filler hoses. Jack your body up slowly and watch for any wiring or hoses getting stretched. Depending on your truck and lift,it might be fairly easy or a pain in the rear. Good luck.
does anyone know what i'm going to have to do with my radiator when putting a 3 inch body lift on my 95 F-150. It has the 302 with an auto tranny. Thanks
