CPS=Crankshaft Position Sensor....it's a common item to go bad, in fact ford had a recall on said sensor. I just got mine in the mail a couple of weeks ago.
The CPS is located just above the harmonic balancer and just below the water pump. I think it's an 8mm. The go in different ways. In my old truck, it was idling in my drive
and the engine just shut down. I was able to get it started again, but replaced the Cps anyway. My current truck (an 02) had a stumble a couple of times while on the interstate,
replaced the CPs and has never happened since. Some have had problems with the new one from the recall, but I guess I'm lucky. Although some get them cheap, I'm not lucky that way. The people on this site should be able to get you into one for a lot less than I paid.
Now do I try and start it while the screwdriver is accross the terminals? Or hold for 30 sec, then try to start?
It works best if you have a partner, so one can jump the terminals while the other attempts to start the engine.
Barring that, jump it for 30 seconds, then get as quickly as you can to the key. At 34 degrees, there still should be enough heat in the cylinders after heating for 30 seconds to enable the engine to fire.
Also you might try checking the fuses, your fuel bowl heater might have shorted and blown the fuse.
That would be evidenced by the "wait to start" light not coming on when you turn on the ignition.
Kwik . . . The screwdriver got really hot!!!!!!!!!!!
But it started!!!!!!!!!!! Sooooooooooo, now I repplace that little POS and it'll be as good as new.
Thanks all........... I did have a spare.
Kwik . . . I'll bet you were the same guy that helped me with this the last time...4 years ago!!!!!
