I have a simple trick I have been using over the years that I wanted to share with you guys that are as **** as me about keeping your stuff clean. I have always hated trying to use the tire shine after washing and drying everything only to get it all over the rims which I have to wipe down a second time. Then it has a slick coating that all the dirt sticks to so I came up with the idea of having something cover the rims while I was spraying the tire shine. On a '99-'04 with 16 inch rims, cut a round piece of cardboard exactly 17 1/4 inches. It helps to put a handle in the center. Now when you spray, you can cover the rims and not get any on them. I have used the wipe pads too but they seem to wipe off as much as you put on. Enjoy shining your tires.................
You can actually buy rim protectors from Summit I think for this purpose. I've seen a couple guys use them at car shows.
I'll be dang....I need to get out more. Somebody beat me to a patent on my piece of cardboard. LOL...I'm missing so much of this world working all the time. But working is just about to get my two kids through with college. Maybe in a couple of years...
They use plastic and have been around atleast 8 years. I think KleenWheels makes the nicer version with the handle and trim lines so you can fit them to your wheels. I believe Blitz makes a set as well.

I think tire dressing is about as **** as a thing can be...especially on truck tires...not that there's anything wrong with that. Its simply as ghetto a look one can achieve- as if you don't have sufficient money to actually have a nice ride, so here let's spray some shiny crap on the tires so looks good- "My windshield is cracked like a $3 hooker and I can't afford to fix it, but I got's my tires all da bling!".

Not all products are shiny. While I think super glossy fluids like Black Magic look good, I use products that leave a more natural rubber sheen, mainly Formula 303 or Mother's reflections tire care. Tires need to be cared for, particularly if your like me and a set last 10+ years. UV blockers help prevent dry rot and cracking, so it's not a bad thing to do to tires.

Its not all about the shine...it also helps protect from the sun's UV rays. Let them sit long enough without protection and they will turn brown and start to get spider cracks.
There is a new tire gel applicator at auto zone, the bottle has a big sponge on one end for the cap that is curved for the tire, it works pretty good, just squeeze and apply. No fuss no mess.
I too am **** about cleaning my wheels and tires! if the rest of the truck is shining the wheels and tires have to shine!
another tip is to make sure you clean the side wall of your tires, I like Simple Green and a scrub brush. you have to get all of the old crud left over from the last time you put on a tire dressing. simple green is also great to use on your wheels. I prefer to use the meguires gel and a curved applicator...the cardboard is a great cheap idea!!!! will try that for sure!
I like the original Armor all. it's not too greasy and i apply with saturated rag so i don't have to get spray on the rims. It doesn't give it that "wet" look, just a clean, bold look. I do the the Simple Green to wash the tires/rims as well between applications.
