Forgive me for this possibly dumb question. Do you have to remove the turbo to do this work or does everything come off from the back/underneath the truck. Does not look like a fun project.

No, yes, and yes from what I hear. I would not pull my turbo to do it. I have heard it is much easier with the tranny out, but I wouldn't go that far either. I will comment if and when I have to do this. Until then, we learn from those that go before us or repeat their mistakes.

Tim,if you soak all the bolts with BP blaster or some micro mist penetrating oil the night before it makes things go easier. It was a pain for me cause I was short on time when I done it,so everything went wrong.

Just talked to Roland and he had a harder time getting the up-pipes on then we had with mine. He will finish tomorrow. He did get Joe going after working all night last night. I think Joe left at 5:00 this morning. Roland is picking up his wife at the airport in Houston tonight, then I am sure he will get some sleep.
The baby's butt dowel pin was being a "butt" about lining up to seat the flange. I ended up almost taking the bolts completely out of the exhaust manifold flanges to get things right. Then, she fell into place. I got the exhaust and turbo mounted and tightened before going to the airport. I will be finishing this job up before lunch.
I haven't see my wife for 3 weeks and I want to spend this evening and tomorrow with her.
I did finally get some sleep last night. Joe and I got a late start on Friday. We were still waiting for "Mr Brown" to deliver our much needed parts. He arrived after his injector showed up and we went to my work to pick up the uppipes. My shipment had been delayed and was still sent there and couldn't be intercepted.
I will tell more about Joe's truck in his "AE scanner" thread. Long story short another trip to town was in store for us.
Plans changed. Will be havin' lunch with the wife and in-laws first. Get some errands done and THEN work on finishin' my truck. Family is also important to me and right now they rank first.
I will update when all is done and I take my test drive.
Got finished with turbo install earlier tonight. Test drove. Lots more whistle. Does seem to accelerate quicker due to faster spooling. EGTs lower. Boost numbers are a bit low. Everythings tight. Need to tighten up the wastegate more. Will try it out tomorrow. Need to drive in the daytime to evaluate things more. Pleased with the outcome so far.
I finished up the turbo install last night. It was after 10pm when I got her up and running again. I had a little trouble with 4" hose to the turbo inlet. I don't know why the can't make those things fit right. The spider sits forward slightly and caused the hot IC pipe boot to come in contact with the engine pull loop bracket. I took one of the bolts out to pivot it around for clearance. Problem solved. The hot IC even now has more clearance away from the air filter tube on my AFE and is a plus. I put the Turbo Master WG Controller linkage on the BB turbo. I had it it adjusted a little tighter than what it was on th stock turbo. Boost was low; barely hit 20 in 80e. I came back a got a wrench to adjust the WG. I tightened it down some more. Now it was like 22-23psi. I tried it in 120r and got a couple more #'s. I stopped again and cranked the adjustment all the way down. I think it went 26psi at the max. Better. It was hard to watch the gauges, at night, speeding down a back country road going over creek bridges AND running outa road. I have a little "tweaking" I can do. I will need to "shim up" the adjustment rod nut to get it tighter. Ran outa thread. I know there is some more untapped potential. I will let ya'll know how that goes.
