ok i have a 1994 f 350 crewcab dually 2 wheel drive 460 cu. It has started shifting hard on upshift all the time and has slipped out of o/d into nuetral a couple of times. i ran the codes and got 332 and 452 i replaced the vss on the differental but i don't know if i reset the codes i didn't unhook the battery after replacing the sensor. speedo acts fine no bouncing no o/d light flashing and no abs light. any suggestions? i have searched and read other threads here but none fit my situation exactly
ok heres a update. i unhooked the battery. waited and hooked it back up. cleared the codes and it shifted fine for a while then it went right back to the way it was. cleared the codes again same thing. so today i checked the speedometer against my gps. according to the gps i was holding the same speed but my speedometer showed a gradually fall off of speed then it would gradually come back to where it was. no big jumps just small movement. also my cruis control won't set either. can this be caused by a bad psom in the instrument cluster all the other gauges work . what are your thoughts on this?
i know ford recalled the speedo thing... something about catching the truck on fire even if it wasn't running... i don't think that would be your problem though
anyone know what is the easiest way to check the wires that come from the vss sensor off the differental. to see if they are good. but i think they are sense it works for a little bit. i keep getting the same code 452. no vss input or something like that
You can test the speed sensor by putting an ohm meter across it. If I remember correctly you should see 200-500ohms. Next you should take it out and clean it. See how the speedo operates then.
Because of the stumble that you describe I would also be inclined to check the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). Go to fordfuelinjection.com for instructions.
One other thing, have you got an ABS light on?
no abs light is on and the overdrive light on the handle is not flashing. the only codes that i get are 332 low egr flow and 452 no vss signal detected. i have already replaced the vss sensor. i will check the tps sensor today and see what i can find out there.
update so i tested the TPS sensor per ford fuleinjection site. at throttle closed(idle) position the sensor read .94 volts then i verry slowly moved throttle to wide open meter slowly increase voltage till at full throttle it read 4.64 volts. this seems to be alright according to what i read. so whats next. could the psom work ok for about 20 minutes then after it gets warmed up stop working?
ok so i have fixed this problem so i am going to recap. Transmission shifting hard and no cruise control after about 15 or 20 minutes of driving. ran the codes got code 332, 452. 452 is no signal from VSS. Replaced VSS sensor on differentral. still not working. checked wiring no apparent scraps or scuffs tested TPS sensor on throttle its good. So i replaced the instrument cluster from a 1995 f-150 drove around tonight and seemed to solve problem. So i think my instrument cluster was bad. but didn't show any typical symptoms like tach not working or bouncing speedometer just cruise stopped working. so if you have this problem or cruise quits working and the fuses are good try changing your instrument cluster.
Now i need to figure out the code 332 egr flow low code. Where is the egr valve on a 1994 460?
IS the PSOM a replacable part by itself or is it esaier to replace the whole instrument cluster ?
How much does the PSOM cost or the whole cluster new ?
