Both gaskets are correct and the filter is identical to the old one except the hole for the pickup is oblonged. The one in the truck is round. The new filter did not come with a pickup, and the old one won't fit because they are different shapes. Anybody ever have this happen? The box says "performance transmission filter" no brand. Not sure where to go from here.

this is the EXACT reason i use the ford filter.

For my 4R70W the filter from ProKing doesn't really look any different than a Motorcraft or a WIX.

The only problem I did run into is that some of the filters have the spout on the end of the filter that only works with certain pans. Mine has a flat pan, so I need the filter that doesn't have the spout on the bottom. I hope that makes sense.

I also noticed that the ring on the top always sticks inside the valve body.

Hello All

I did the job last weekend and followed the directions on changing the E4OD fluid as outlined by Mark K in F250 Tech Tips. It went flawlessly and with minimum spillage, most from drips once the pan was off. I pumped out the pan using the clear hose technique without a helper. No probs. Popped the rubber bellhousing plug and my luck held as the drain plug was pointing exactly south. Drained the TC, installed the new filter, used the supplied rubber pan gasket and filled as directed. No leaks anywhere.

Oh ya, I did put down a large piece of cardboard to cover the driveway before I started the job. You are going to get spillage/drips, no matter how careful you are.

Thanks to all that gave their input.

Regards

I just put in the filter from advanced auto on Saturday and it seems to be working great. It sits in the pan just like the original did and I don't think there is any room for it to slip or fall out. I also used the high mileage synthetic and it has definatley improved the way my tranny shifts. I don't know if it is the fluid or the fact that my fluid is not burnt and brown that makes it shift smoother but I would rather spend a couple dollars more for the good stuff. I think the price diff. was only three dollars a gallon at wal-mart.

A problem that I had during the job was, the wonderful people at Murray's sold me the wrong transmission filter and when I went back they didn't have the right one. I went to Adavanced and was out the door within two minutes and with the right part. There is a differance between the 4x2 and 4x4 tranny filters. Look at the part that points down into the pan when it is installed.

Another issue I had was instead of jacking the truck up I thought I would just park it over a low spot in the yard and fix it up quick. I took me longer then I thought it would, with the added trip to the parts store so I had to finish the job after a nice thunderstorm laying in a puddle. It was a good time and now I think I will never shop at Murray's again, bad for them, good for Advance Auto.
